Both the books by Khaled Hussainin had me in tears..his writing reflects the bitter face of patriarchy and insurgency in a country that was once splendid (in the medieval era) I think. I also loved reading "African Laughter" by Doris Lessing, non-fictional account of four visits to Zimbabwe during its transition phase. Not as sharp and emotional like Kite runner, but a gently unfolding journey punctuated with humorous and often deep observations about people and how circumstances can change their responses over a period of time.
