I think there should be some type of allowance to block people that you dislike for "whatever" reason from private messaging you as well as blocking them from posting on forums that you are active in or that you create.

As of right now it's meaningless to block them from being able to contact you through personal message. It may allow you to block from seeing their activity but it doesn't stop that person from following you around on this site and inflicting verbal slander upon you that you are then unable to see because you've blocked them, unless someone quotes them. It defeats the purpose.

I think that it should be allowed that you can block them from private messaging you, seeing your posts, commenting on posts you are party to or head of. It makes complete sense!

The 'ignore user' seems to work well for most things, everything else has been gone through on a previous thread iirc, and got a 'nay' in the end. Just scroll past the quoted posts you don't like?

I agree except the part of blocking them from posts in which you participate in. That's just too controlling and ridiculous. If you tend to post everywhere, then they can't post everywhere. They have every right to have the ability to participate in posts just like you do. However, that can be solved by them not being able to see your posts. So in other words, blocking = cannot communicate with you, you cannot see them, nor can they see you, which I agree with. But the other is a tad too extreme.

Yup, Bling's right, this topic comes around regularly. You can block someone from sending you private messages, correct? Go to their profile and select "Block ___________ From Contacting Me", I accidentally blocked myself once, it was very confusing! If it doesn't work, it may be due to the site still having technical issues, I know ArticleL mentioned a few days ago he wasn't able to un-block someone. I'm sure if that's the case it will be straightened-out soon.

I agree with everyone else here, you can't block people from posting on whatever thread they wish, even the the ones you create yourself, this is a public forum. If a user is having difficulty with another user in particular, they'll just have to be dealt with individually/reported to admin. One just can't entertain the idea of passively controlling others on a public site. That would be like standing at the door of a public library and telling someone "Nope, you can't come in here because you may say something I find insulting", or, "you might present an opposing opinion, and try to defend it too vigorously". The ability to do that would be subjective and arbitrary.
