Anyone else do this ??
Have you had to wear a gum shield at night ?
Just wondering, as my jaw aches to much for me to ignore it now My dentist told me way back I am prob going to need a gum shield,as I've got scar tissue inside my cheeks too, so I'm just curious. thanks!

No...but I have a TMJ disorder from my car accidents at the beginning of the year.
That supposedly can also be caused from teeth grinding/clenching too. They make little splints to wear to keep your jaw in the relaxed position while you sleep. No biggie.

Alot of people do it without even knowing it.

that's the one ...splints.
I was going to buy some of those gumshields you put in water and mould, just 'til I can get the imprints done on Monday, but She advised me against it.
I've been doing it mildly over time I tihnk, as when I went to see my own dentist, he said I have a lot of scar tissue in my mouth (and I do, it's easily noticeable), but he has 2 porsches (at least), and i thought he was going to rip me off, whereas I think it's gonna cost me about 30 quid via the lovely nursies at work (I'm going to see if I can blag a buy one, second half price deal out of them too )

For me, I can already feel the tops of my teeth being sighty ground/rough, aswell as the dull aching around my jaw/temples

About 4 years ago, I went to my dentist for widespread, deep, intense pain in my teeth. I figured my mouth must be FULL of cavities. I had one small cavity... but in tapping and checking and touching hot and cold instruments to all the teeth in my mouth, asking me when I felt pain, or if I felt nothing... he said my responses made it clear to him that what I actually had was TMJ. And he pointed out that I was, in fact, clenching my jaw at that very moment. I was flummoxed. I don't clench my jaw! He told me to relax my jaw, he wanted to feel around.. no, RELAX it.. no, UNLOCK my jaw muscles and RELAX.. holy cow, that was hard for me to do! Apparently, I've done this for so many years, my muscles and tendons became almost locked tight. No wonder I couldn't open my mouth very wide! And the dentist said YES, that's where my constant, low-grade headaches that occasionally flare HUGE were from!

So he made me a temporary contraption.. something that looked totally dorky and weird, but was molded right there in the office in 15 minutes... for a slap-dash contraption, it fit VERY well, locked tight onto my front teeth, and kept my teeth & jaw apart and relaxed. I wore that thing as close to 24 hrs a day as I could manage, only removing it for eating, toothbrushing, and the like. I even TALKED around the thing, though my kids found that terribly amusing! It also made me ACUTELY aware of the clenching - I would find myself clenching my jaw (no joke) 100 times a day without that thing in, like if I was going shopping or to meetings or any place public! I was to go back for a truly custom molded and fitted mouth piece, but the cost was somewhere near $300. So I wore my little doohicky for 5 or 6 months solid, as much as I could. It worked. My jaw muscles relaxed back into place, the tendons went back where they belonged. My tooth (and jaw... entire lower face, really) pain faded away.

If you have pain (or damage even!) from clenching/grinding - GET THE MOUTH GUARD. My doohicky is still in a little tiny plastic container, in my medicine cabinet! But now, I generally have the tip of my tongue held GENTLY between my teeth, hidden behind my closed lips - can't clench my jaw then! LOL But if I start getting headaches for "no reason" -- I wear the contraption at night for a couple weeks!

She does it more often when she's tired. I remember when I was a kid, I heard the grinding and i thought it was someone walking with a wet flip flops on. I was scared, because this was in the middle of the night.

Yep
I finally got an imprint made today, and had X-rays of the back of my jaw, as the dentist thinks I may have cracked a tooth at the back somewhere (even though there's nothing painful around that area right now)..now I have another 10 days to wait for the gumshield my teeth do kinda feel sharper at present though, although I'm not sure how good that is, outside of it being kinda cool
Although the jaw exercises I was given are helping somewhat, the muscles are still aching every now and then, meh.
Thanks for asking too
