who are your fav film directors that get you thinking, "WHAT GOES ON IN THEIR HEAD TO MAKE SOMETHING SO BRILLIANT"? like any movie they make there's no doubt you'll love it?

my top 3:

sofia coppola - style, cinematography and soundtrack to make you melt, and the atmosphere she creates is so distinctive
stanley kubrick - god; there's shots in his films you'll remember for the rest of your life
danny boyle - truly dynamic; i think he could tackle any genre and bring something original to it

i should also mention harmony korine, david lynch, tarantino, satoshi kon, and miyazaki.

who are your favs and why/and what are some of your fav films by them?

I forgot Michel Gondry!

Polanski can be good (the one with Sigourney Weaver was pretty damn spot on) but I find myself bored with his projected personal perversions in his female characters. Every time it happens I can't help but remember his love for underage girls. Grosses me out. Plus, I just plain get bored with his work half the time.

lol, yeah, I hear you. I kinda have problems watching some Woody Allen movies for the same reason. Creepy old men.

lol, i can't really get into woody allen's movies. they're enjoyable, but nothing really resonates with me afterwards. and there's always something a bit off in them for me.

except maybe 'vicky christina barcelona' and 'annie hall'.

Forgot Pedro Almodovar.

Exo, I liked those Woody Allen titles you mentioned too, but I hear you, a lot of his movies leave you unsatisfied, questioning, wanting more. But that's probably his objective, I think. I think he just raises a lot of questions with his films but never really tries to answer them.

Some more of his I enjoyed were Sweet and Lowdown, Match Point, Melinda and Melinda, and Stardust Memories. and I haven't seen his recent Midnight in Paris but my Cap said it was good.

i saw midnight in paris too. cute story, but that's all i can say about it. lol. and it ended so abruptly.

you're right. woody allen leaves you questioning, but not necessarily in an intriguing way.
