sure, politics are a dirty game and our president isn't the sole decision maker. he's pretty much a figure head. however, you can usually tell how tides are moving by what he chooses to speak on.

i've heard this talk before but I also followed the reaction of China and it was quickly smothered with other issues. This is something that needs to be handled with kid gloves because we've gotten ourselves in a lot of debt with them.

these issues he's dealing with were inherited, it will take a helluva lot longer than 4 years to work them out. i believe, if the republicans wouldn't have gained control (totally our faults as voters) things would be progressing much better. but unfortunately, we must reap what we sow at the moment until we collectively choose to make a change again.

I disagree, i understand how people could be happy hes talking about some real issues now, but i honestly doubt it will matter. its like when he said he would stand against the banks and the bailouts. but its already happened- the damage is done. and you know its not like our president was oblivious to all of this while it was happening. its not a coincidence that these people made it possible for him to be elected by giving him ridiculous amounts of funds. if there is anything to learn from this, its that politics is a dirty game. our own president might as well be a bought of senator.

good points, westside.

I'm not opposed to global trade. i think it's wonderful thing. however, i don't think there should be concessions made for buying outside and penalties for keeping the work inside the borders.

it's backwards, really. to encourage jobs....there should be incentives for buying locally to offset our labor costs. maybe then, the world's labor rates will become competitive.

as a people, we have to set a standard. a business standard and a standard for ethics and values.

instead of just focusing on price and value, we need to make intelligent choices with our purchases.

when i was outsourcing those products to china...we started with fabricated parts, then welded and eventually they wanted the complete assemblies, and at that point is when the recession started.

these people didn't realize that the very people they were taking the jobs from were ALSO their customer.

if your customer isn't working, they can't buy your product.

I'm excited that Obama is finally talking about this out loud. It's a tough stand. China could single handedly bring down our economy if this isn't done with grace because they control their currency.

perhaps we can influence one or more of our representatives to enforce labor laws on corporations even though the labor is not within the U.S.

let us never forget that above all else, the taxes, the corporations, outsourcing, unemployment-there is a greater factor to be payed attention to, and that is the banks owned by london.

however, with the outsourcing, the main problem lies within greedy individuals who bath in self interest, but that would be the least practicable problem to fix-even if it were possible. the simple thing you can fix are the taxes themselves, just lowering them. however, the tax system is already treetrunked to hell(imo) with the biased taxes. it just does not sit right with me that there are people who have no obligation to pay any taxes at all, while another person is obliged to pay 20%+ taxes on their income.

the solution?(i think) implement a flat tax, while lowering them aswell.

P.S. -- Here's the quote from the State of the Union:
"Think about the America within our reach: A country that leads the world in educating its people. An America that attracts a new generation of high-tech manufacturing and high-paying jobs. A future where we're in control of our own energy, and our security and prosperity aren't so tied to unstable parts of the world. ...

What's happening in Detroit can happen in other industries. It can happen in Cleveland and Pittsburgh and Raleigh. We can't bring back every job that's left our shores. But right now, it's getting more expensive to do business in places like China. Meanwhile, America is more productive. A few weeks ago, the CEO of Master Lock told me that it now makes business sense for him to bring jobs back home. Today, for the first time in fifteen years, Master Lock's unionized plant in Milwaukee is running at full capacity.

So we have a huge opportunity, at this moment, to bring manufacturing back. But we have to seize it. ...

My message is simple. It's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas, and start rewarding companies that create jobs right here in America. Send me these tax reforms, and I'll sign them right away."

I'm an Obama supporter. Volunteered for his campaign (and Hillary's) when they came to our city. Every so often I get letters. They just give you pieces of information about what is going on and ask for donations. Most don't pertain to me.

This one did......

(side note - this tax break for corporations is very real. I was a purchasing professional for eight years and had to pull manufacturing jobs out of local companies to oursource to china. Why? The corporation got a 13% tax break for doing so. Plus, the excessive/poor quality inventory didn't matter because they could write it off in a reserve account. Ass backwards way of doing business...but i'm glad it's finally getting a voice)

Bobbie --

Here's something that President Obama laid out in his State of the Union that I think deserves special attention:

Under current law, American companies can actually get a tax deduction for outsourcing jobs.

That's the opposite of how it should work. President Obama is proposing to end tax deductions for outsourcing, create a new tax credit for bringing jobs home, and lower tax rates for companies that manufacture and create jobs in the United States.

If you think this should be a priority during this campaign, it's up to you to speak out. Support the President and spread the word:

http://my.barackobama.com/Keep-Jobs-at-Home

This could be a defining issue of 2012.

One of our prospective opponents built his career in part on outsourcing jobs in the private sector -- and then continued outsourcing jobs as a governor. Is that the kind of economic experience and mindset people want in a President?

We heard a much different plan from President Obama this week -- and we need to make sure everyone knows about this contrast. In his own words, "It's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas, and start rewarding companies that create jobs right here in America. ... Our workers are the most productive on Earth, and if the playing field is level, I promise you -- America will always win."

Thanks,

James
