Really no soccer fans around? EPL starts back on the weekend and I kinda thought a thread might pop up. Since it didn't, I figured I'd start one and see how it goes.
So, yeah... the football you play with your feet.
Any supporters? Who do you support? EPL, la Liga, bundesliga, Seria A? MLS? Liverpool, Newcastle, Celtic? Will the riots turn even more ugly if FA cancels matches? Is this the year West Ham and Milwall supporters learn to get along? Yeah. Forget that last one.
Not till Saturday for EPL. Tho other leagues in England have already started.
I started with the EPL so it's hard for me to watch MLS. The more I watch, it grows on me, but I always thought of it as a step backwards. Watching the WWC over the summer has me wanting to check out WPS. Watching women was another thing I had a bias about, but I thoroughly enjoyed the WWC so I'm on board now. Shoulda given em a chance sooner.
I watched the friendly last nite too. Wasn't very friendly, but not a bad match. We stepped it up in the second half. Still have some complaints, but for Klinsmann's first match, it could have gone worse. I mean they could have come back to beat us after being down by 2 at the half. Again.
Mexican goalie saved the mexicans last night. or it would have been klinsman's first win with the squad. Horrendous non-call on the USA breakaway where the mexican pulled him from behind, the ref gave him a yellow card, that was a red card foul!
Anyways, Germany beat Brazil and Italy beat Spain....in the other friendlies last night.
I thoroughly enjoy watching the women play soccer. Did you follow the womens world cup this year?
Oh yeah, that's what I was saying. I never appreciated womens football until watching the world cup. In many ways I enjoyed it more than the mens. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but the 2010 world cup was a bit of a dud to me. In comparison to others, I mean.
Agreed about the Mexican keeper and that horrible call. We took too many long range shots and we gave them too much room. They were all over us like hotcakes.
I watched our friendly at a local pub so everyone was talking about the other friendlies, but no one could tell me who was playing their A teams and who weren't. Hafta admit I was pretty surprised by the results either way. I have a lot of respect for Spain. They look for the cards too often, but their style of play is just stunning. Like Barcelona. That kind of football is why it's called the beautiful game.
Well. It's been an exciting day so far. Arsenal's future is looking up, even if they were just playing Swansea. My Spurs supporting mate was worried about Wolves, unnecessarily, it turns out. A nice flick by Sturridge helped Chelsea pull it off at the Stadium of Light. And then there's Liverpool. We knew it wouldn't be easy, playing Stoke at Britannia never is, but I can safely say I hadn't expected us to play that hard and not have a single point to show for it. Disappointing to say the least.
First and foremost, LFC deserved the 3 points. Everton didn't deserve to be down to 10 men for the bulk of the match, but when your back line falls asleep at the wheel, you will get scored on. Poor Timmy had to work a lot harder today than he should have.
I know no one who starts the season saying, "Those FA and Carling cups... talk about meh.". So why is that what they say as soon as their team is knocked out?
Carling Cup final yesterday was ridiculous. Had I money on the match, I very well may have had a heart attack.
