I'm sorry but I really want to blame his Cancer Mars for all this. Cancer placements can't deal with undefined relationships very well.
I want to say an Aries wouldn't do this. Especially Aries sun, moon, and mercury. I've never outright ignored someone unless I really did not give 2 shits about them.
