Growing up in the Pacific Northwest was pretty terrifying when you mother fit the profile of one of the most well known serial rapists/killers. She was slender, had straight brown hair to her ass, parted in the middle.

Was surprised he and Gary Ridgeway- Aka, Green River killer have not been added to this section. I will post up info on him next.

Personal story:
Mid 70's my mom takes myself, my sister and brother to Lake Sammamish state park. I was young, maybe 5, my sister 6 and my brother 8. As we are all running around playing a guy approached my mom for some help and she almost left with him to do it, but since we where there she couldn't just leave us. The dude was Ted Bundy! I barely remember him but I do remember him having a cast on his arm and he kept pointing to his car nearby. Thank god my mom didn't leave to help him as she would have been one of his many victims. So enough on that.

It still stretches belief, how two people's lives would intersect in such a fashion.
She wanted to be a cop. She came from a family of cops and jailers. But she couldn't pass the civil service exam. Her nearsightedness was so bad "I couldn't see the big E or the wall behind it," and the law back then disallowed the use of contact lenses. "I was so disappointed that I couldn't even drive by the public safety building for five years," she said.

Instead, she pursued a degree in creative writing, thinking she could still be involved in police work as a crime writer.

He was a budding lawyer, handsome, charming and bright. With all that charisma, he attracted women as if they were flies and he were sugar. It didn't hurt that he had a good job -- assistant to the governor of Washington.

So it is not unusual that Ann Rule and Ted Bundy would become friends. Each volunteered on a crisis hot line in Seattle. She had seen him talk somebody "down." They conversed often.

What's not to like?

It was the early 1970s. Rule was working on a book, her first, about a Seattle-area serial killer. Imagine her shock and surprise when evidence pointed to the killer being Bundy.

"I wasn't really afraid," Rule recalled in an interview. "It was more that I felt was I betraying a friend. ... Once he knew I was writing a book, my conscience didn't bother me."

The book became The Stranger Beside Me
