My ascendent is in virgo, but my first house seems to be in libra. I also have pluto, saturn and jupiter in libra in my first house.

I always hear about a certain planet rising. In my instance, would I have mercury rising as it's my ascendant, or would I have pluto, saturn and jupiter rising as they are in my first house, or are all four planets rising?

What do you think? 🙂

Houses start at the point of your Rising, which you say is Virgo, that means the sun at the point of the horizon at your specific time was in the constellation Virgo. You are attempting to associate two things .. 1. the planet Mercury since it's ruled by Virgo, and 2. importance of housing other planets in the first position.

Perhaps, what you need to realize is that house borders don't coincide with astrological constellation borders. You say that your first house is in Libra isn't correct, because your rising sign is in Virgo, so there is a fraction of the first house in Virgo. Apparantly, your first house must be very close to the same borders, so that you cannot tell.

Look at all your houses in your chart and you will see that house borders aren't the same. You can actually have one house in three constellations if the house is big.

To answer your question .. "no" Mercury isn't your rising, Virgo is.
