My hair is black and you'll be able to tell the difference, going black to bleach blonde will dry out your hair so deep condition it, use leave in conditioner everyday for two weeks but continue to treat your hair..
Thin straight hair and pure oils don't mix, but at least find a nourishing serum
My hair is thick so I can use olive and castor oil to restore it's health, might be too heavy for your hair

So has anyone actually DONE IT?

If you went from dark to blonde yourself and were you happy and what was your process?

What products did you use?

I honestly use bleach powder and 40 volume to get black to blonde

You can get it cheap like 2 bucks a pack and developer cream is about 2 bucks also

Ps..I've got Asian hair so it's jet black and thick. It may be quicker on your hair as yours is brown so just keep checking the colour.

You have really pretty hair!

Look up olaplex system! I wouldnt bleach them without it ever again 😍 But I can also recommend directions bleaching kit, depending on your hair condition I'd say 20 vol. is good. 30 or 40 might fry your hair if you arent experienced! I color my hair since years wirhout typical box dyes! Make sure you have a silver toner at hand when you bleach your hair. It will get rid of the ugly yellowish/orange tone after bleaching. Also to correct yellowish tones use ash blonde otherwise, but a good silver toner will do it!

Do you have a beauty supply store that's open to the public like Sally's? If you do, just go in and ask. Way back in the day I used to buy supplies there and the staff was always helpful. Be sure to buy a toner too so you don't wind up brassy.

*i see that this has already been covered. I should really read beyond page 1 before I comment.

i know what my friend did. she would bought the lightest shade of sblonde color, and put a tea spoon of a bleacher for hair, mixed with 9% of peroxide. just the roots, and after idk, half an hour, she would do the whole hair and leave it for 10min more. she had a very sensitive skin, so before the process she would put on her whole scalp the greasy cream for the kids. after you wash your hair, you put the strongest mask you can find and leave it as long as you can, or make it yourself, something with olive oil. using just a bleacher is deadly for the hair.

I can understand the last two time I went to a hairdresser it cost me nearly $ 300AUD each and it does get pricey especially when my hair grows out so fast.

get a 20 volume creme peroxide and the hair colour you want. I normally use an 11.89 (pearl blonde) or 11.2 which is a violet blonde.

I normally put it all over my hair or just the area you're wanting to touch up and leave it for about 6 hours (and yes I do run around doing things with it still in my hair) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. 20 volume I find is less stressful for my hair and it doesn't go orange brassy. I find if I do this twice with a 1.5 weeks break in between it brings out the colour safely.

Be sure to get a good hair mask, sulfate free hair cleanser and nourish your hair as much as possible the next few days. I wouldn't wash it for the 48 hours after you color it. Blonde toning, highlighting etc strips the follicles. You want to repair that so you won't have straw hair. I also use a violet shampoo once or twice a week. It gets brassiness out and revives it a bit. Saves time between colorings which you want to prolong as much as possible to help your hair.

I am TERRIFIED of bleaching because the Internet says you are essentially frying your hair! πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ Good luck!

Is it just home bleaching or salon bleaching that worries you?

All of it

I haz curly hair and I've seen curly-haired women who have bleached and couldn't get their curl back. 😰

It's just something you have to do when ballin on a budget believe me I WISH it wasn't this way. But i do wish people would be more understanding or positive....i can't afford salon prices...that's just the way it is.

I don't want to complain etc. I am aware it sounds ....like I begrudge hairdressers I don't ..believe i worked in one.

It is what it is though...

I want to be positive about ballin on a budget ...MY short home dye blonde hair will be AWESOME i just know it

Positive thinking!

Lol, you do you. I didn't mean to come off as a Debbie downer. My comments were referring to any kind of bleaching, whether it's at home or 'Toni & Guy.' It's just very harsh on the hair.

You know your hair and what it can take, so don't let anyone or me tell you what to do with your hair. I know all about being on a smaller budget. I splurged a little while back to get my hair straightened and then blow tried so I could enjoy my growth. I also got some nice highlights. But I haven't done anything since but home wash and use coconut oil, lol.

Good luck?

I can see your natural hair color and it's light enough to achieve the blonde you have with level 10 hair color and 20 or 30 volume, from Sally's beauty. DO NOT use box dye from a drugstore. You might need to tone your hair so that it's all one consistent color. You can always go to a beauty school and get it done by people who are close to graduating, if you're on a budget. Otherwise, doing a bleach retouch is hard to achieve by yourself at home

There is a hair dresser supply store. Near me for professional hairdressers the place i used to work in ordered from it.

I can look around for cheaper places too.

Try that. Get a 10N and maybe you can ask someone there if they'd recommend 20 or 30 volume, as I haven't seen your hair in real life
