Weight Loss Surgery

General thoughts on it? Just curious.
female
I feel it's best to lose the old fashion way. My aunt had the surgery and she's lost over 200 lbs. Unfortunately, a lot was due to complications after surgery and most of her weight lose is attributed to being sick and being in and out of the hospital. I think some people see surgery as the quick fix and forget that it's a serious procedure.
I didn't like the idea of any form of surgery to lose weight until a close friend of mine decided to get it done. He will have surgery early this year. So I never liked the idea of it, but I've never been fat or struggled with food or anything. So when he told me his struggles and how he wants to be healthy, I could understand why he would go through such extensive lengths to lose weight.

It is your own fault in 98% of cases.

More like 95% . Lololololololololol

I really don't see 2% being the coverage for those with say... Medical conditions that causes weight gain and metabolism problems.

I feel like there is a lot of ignorance in this thread. Not all types of diabetes are caused from someone being overweight. Not all morbidly obese, or even slightly obese people are doing this type of procedure as a "quick fix". Some of these people have medical issues that make losing weight more difficult. There are people who have psychological disorders that impact their everyday motivation. There are emotional eaters.

I feel like it's easy for people to harshly judge others, when they, don't have any experience. I understand being upset with people who can't just get up, work out, eat healthier and lose the weight, but that is not the mindset of these people. Half these people get looked at as if they are vile or are made fun of, just by stepping out into the public world. Why would someone want to deal with this type of behavior from the public? Sometimes the best way to avoid it, is to stay home, eat, and exist only to get by. You cannot be that ignorant. It's not that simple for people.

Kind of why I wanted to hear opinions on this.

I follow up on our patients at 30 days, 6 months, 1 year, and every year following..

I have seen some of the most amazing transformations in my 3 years doing this. I've watched people who take several different insulins and multiple hypertensive meds be completely off of them in under a years time. It's crazy.

Not what I asked.

Umm.. if you need weight loss surgery then it is your own fault in 98% of cases, allowing yourself to be a treetrunking bloated out lazy treetrunktard.

No one else get's you there, trust me nothing angers me more than the people who excuse it, my family are like this.

Again.. not what I asked.

Why did you ask though? i'm not angry at you just the whole thought process is annoying me, since it wastes medical time and resources.

define 'waste'

When the human can fix it themselves, you will allow yourself to get to the point that someone else has to fix it for you, and in many cases most of them still won't sort it out even post op.

With that logic we shouldn't stitch closed open wounds, cut out cancer, remove bullets...etc. After all if the human could've fixed it...if they hadn't shot themselves cleaning their gun, rode their bike without protective gear, stopped smoking. So why waste medical resources? Right.

Gun shot is an immediate trauma, Cancer is not something you have control over.

I am using 100% logic. There are medical conditions that cause excess weight, and some meds even, but it's controllable.

100% huh. Cancer caused by smoking, I said it up above. Is a heart attack not also immediate trauma?

Stop treetrunking smoking, jesus christ, more excuses, you all choose to do what you do.

I know it's difficult to face full logic ehh? the health warnings are everywhere.. LMAO.

Health warnings for cigarettes are actually relatively new. They used to be marketed as being GOOD for ones health. Your logic is flawed my little friend.

For over 10 years is relatively new?

You have an argument for older people who got issues from smoking, but not the people who are still young and healthy enough to stop it.

The majority of people who have cancer and are being treated for cancer are in that 'older person' bracket. So it's absolutely vital to the discussion.

I wish they would allow skinny ppl with a gut to do it. A small surgery.

I think it's a wonderful wonderful progressive procedure that helps many people

They do.

Gastric balloons are inserted into the stomach endoscopically, and removed after 6 months. It's offered when you do not meet the minimum BMI to be cut, or.. your weight and co-morbitities are too extensive (unsafe) and you need to lose weight before you're cut on.

It's good for people who are morbidly obese to get to a point where they are able to change their life style to a healthier one.

I should only be used as one tool in whole tool box of solutions.

You're such a bully.

IKR

A little kindness goes a long way.

Truth does too.

You're a mean person. You're only saying this insensitive stuff to get back at @GetMisted for telling you the truth.

Nothing to do with the OP, all to do with my own family.

Bully.

Well you can side with a man and woman who never worked in their life and fed off the government even when all their kids are no longer in their care, even though we were their excuse.

But when being brought up were beaten by them both, and everything in life is an excuse for themselves.

It's ok, we shall offer them support without zero effort from them, i'm such a bully.

The ppl I've known that had it, which are 2, so not a big sample here but neither of them were ready and gained all the weight back, so 1 of them had a 2nd surgery and gained it back again and now 5 or so years later has lost all the weight over the course of 3 years, thru diet and exercise. So all that to say, I don't think it works unless your truly ready.

Do you know which procedures they had done?

I know one was a bypass because it was years and years ago and I think the other had the sleeve, is that real or am I making that up?
