I don't think there's much of a reason to ask at this point, I think I'd just be setting myself up for embarrassment.

When she messaged me on Monday (which was a surprise), we talked briefly about how busy and stressed she's been. That's been her excuse for being distant lately, and she's apologized for it several times. So if I asked then this would be her explanation, I already know that.

But I suggested meeting briefly for coffee on Friday (today), so she had all week to plan for it. She was going to let me know if she had to work, and if not then we were on.

But as of 10pm last night, she hadn't said anything, so I asked. She replied immediately saying that she had to work the lunch shift, but her family from another state was going to be in town this weekend (technically, a few towns over) so she was going to leave after lunch and let them see her and her baby.

There are all kinds of negatives in that story. She forgot we had tentative plans, I guess? She had no intention of canceling, either way. And she didn't think to tell me earlier that her family was in town and she couldn't make it? She couldn't spare 15 minutes after work for a coffee date, and just get there a little later?

I guess there could be legit reasons for that, but IMHO, if a girl is interested in a guy then she's going to be excited to see him... she won't forget, and she won't blow him off to go see her family.

On the "mixed signals" side of things, though, on Tuesday I went to the restaurant where she works part-time, when she wasn't working (she usually just works weekends and some lunch shifts). She messaged me the next day and acted disappointed that I'd gone when she wasn't there. Nobody there knows we're talking, so I guess she asked about me? Or someone else there mentioned me to her, which would be kinda weird.

I left it last night with me telling her to have fun with the family, and if she gets bored then text me. I have no intention of initiating again for awhile, so the ball's in her court.
