Sergeant Stubby served for 18 months and participated in seventeen battles on the Western Front in WW1. He saved his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, found and comforted the wounded, and allegedly once caught a German soldier by the seat of his pants, holding him there until American soldiers found him.
Rip was found as a stray following a heavy bombing raid of London in 1940. Rip was not trained for search and rescue work, but took to it instinctively. In twelve months between 1940 and 1941, he found over a hundred victims of the air raids in London
