    This topic reminds me of a poem by Kenneth Koch...




    That bit at the end is very clever if it means what I think it means.


    It's pretty straight forward if you ask me: it's about a writer who found love and started having a social life in his 30s - but sacrificed his work (writing) for that. As he mentioned in the beginning... "there's not enough time - to do all 3 things right (to be a good a lover, to have a social life with friends - and do a good job as well). Come to think of it... that might be possible if you're a bartender. (:


    Perhaps it's because it was my first time encountering it. I was thinking it was a general musing about life, and then the last line made me quite sure he was talking about himself, and this poem was his confession.

    That's quite likely as well. Most writers do that (use their personal life as inspiration). Charles Bukowski - is another writer who did that quite often...
