I'm hoping to retire in about 2 years once I sell my company. I've always wanted to retire early and was making the execution plan around my freshman year in college. I've had a lot of time to think about how retirement would look like. Biggest thing for me:
1) Just relax. It's been non-stop since I could remember (medical school, working 3 jobs to pay off my debt so I could start a med-tech company, etc). I've been working 70+ hr weeks and was flying 100-150k miles a year for business meetings since 2014.
2) Go back to teaching. I walked away from seeing patients/being an adjunct clinical professor shortly after I graduated due to my company growth. I miss having externs and lecturing.
3) I still donate about 25% of my income to charities. The latest one was DirectRelief to help with COVID. I plan to continue to do so.
Do you need a personal assistant? I can live in the fancy shed I just need to go wherever you travel to.
