Ok, you're right, I agree with you. But the whole "be careful or you'll drive your friends away", is aversive control via avoidance(i.e she should stop before she accidentally triggers an aversive event(her friends being driven away).
Yes it's a tough one, but experimentally the end result in the scheme is always less contact or been cautious when to approach her so it's not healthy any possible way. It resolve quite quickly if she for certain periods of time show no outburst, then others gain trust again and by that time she see as her efforts successful. The environmental response is always the best indicator if we doing well I think.
