That's my question. Saying he wanted kids some day is not the same as saying he wants his parents to harvest his sperm and raise a kid without him after he's dead. It sounds like a violation of his autonomy to me.

Yes. I get everyone has their reason to procreate. Although, when you look at the big picture, why procreate when you can't support and be there?

Plenty of people suffer from depression and express it in different ways. Some people have poor mechanism skills. I rather habe people make threads and vent, especially if professional help is difficult to acquire.
Your situation is different. If you struggled in life and managed to overcome it, then good for you.
I'm not saying to coddle anyone but be mindful about what you say because you don't know people's full history and current situation. Also, you never know if you'll get into a situation where you might not have the same fighting spirit as before. You don't know if people you know are going through something.
