Power is so odd
Think of all the figures in history who have terrorised their own peoples as well as those of other nationalities
Saddam Hussein
Stalin
Hitler
Ranavalona
Pol Pot
and many more
Now Putin
I could knock the guy out with one punch. Does he have supporters? Does he rule through fear? Someone with access to him could grab him and strangle him but they don't. Because he, or the system, works through people being scared or dependent on the structure of it. His 2nd in command is loyal in some way and then his 3rd in command and so on all the way down to the soldiers on the ground who go into a country with no idea why they are doing it
It all is very strange to me
Putin is ex KGB agent. He knows how to manipulate peopleclick to expand

I'd been a week in Morocco with my female friend and every time I left her side there was instantly some young Moroccan dude proposing to her π
We got to Marrakesh and it was getting dark as we approached the main square and idk what happened but she just started freaking out on me, she couldn't take any more staring and constant letching. I couldn't calm her down, she completely lost it and in the end we went to the train station and jumped on the night train to Tangiers and in the morning straight onto the ferry to Spain... so that was the end of that trip
I travelled through Morocco alone a few times. First few days happened the same as your friend, to the point someone threw something at me because I didn't give attention. That changed until I got a total makeover and was dressed as a Berber girl. Freedomπ
Sounds great. It's bad enough travelling there alone as a guy. I was the same, I liked walking around in my djellaba with the hood up. Which part of Morocco did you like the best?
You didn't have a good experience? I think travelling alone (as man) is better.
Went all over, all the corners of the country, can't really pinpoint. But loved Chefchouen, Essouira, Gorges du Todra and Atlas Mountains the most
Yes I did like it. I mean it's bad enough with being hassled even as a man alone. I've been 3 times, once alone, once with a small group and once with 2 of us. I think the small group was the most fun but we kept ending up at people's houses in the middle of the night and then they'd try and sell us carpets. It was crazy, scam after scam π€¦ββοΈ
I would like to do a long trek in the Atlas Mountains. I didn't go there apart from an overnight bus ride through to the desert . Todra gorge was nice. I stayed at the other places as well. I liked Meknes because it wasn't at all touristy and felt quite chilled. Also, Fez even though it's mad there. I prob liked riding camels in the desert the best tho π Or the coast down south at Taghazout - that was really dreamy down there
You're probably the only one that likes Fez haha, what a mad place! Dark and filled with crazy people. I had high expectations of Taghazout because I went to Essaouira and people kept telling me not to go to Agadir cause of its resorts so was bit disssapointed.
Meknes I loved as well, especially that Christian prison was giving me vibes.
I also went all the way south to Dakhla for some kitesurfing, that was amazing but aesthetically there's not much to see.
If you go to the Atlas Mountains, on the way there is a small house that is filled with hashish left and right... I was high just being in there π€£
Lol I had a nice trip to the police station at midnight in Fez because my "guide" pulled a knife on me and I kicked him and then these guys from a nearby cafe saw and they grabbed me and asked where I was staying and they helped me get back to my hotel and later there was loud banging on my door "polis" and they dragged me off with them π€¦ββοΈ
I was in the police station and the guy with the knife was there and he was crying. I think they'd beaten him and the police were asking me questions in French, it was a nightmare and somehow I had to pay a "fine" and then I got out of there eventually and the policeman walked back with me to my hotel and the whole way he's offering me hash to smoke and obv I say no because it feels like a setup and he took me to his cousin's house who had a load of dorm beds crammed in a room and he wants me to tell all the people back home about his "hotel" and I'm like "yes sure, very nice..." all the time I'm thinking wtf am I doing in this place? π€£π but Morocco is a trip like that you just get drawn into these crazy situations
I must admit I got the first bus out of there at like 6am the next day I was gone because I was freaking out... but then after a week or so I found myself back in Fez because I met a couple of Aussies and travelled with them for a while. I sort of liked it after that. It's prob the place I've spent the most time in, I've been there 4 times now. It can feel hostile there tho when night sets in. So many dark corners and alleyways and people lurking π€£
Taghazout is just a little surf town but it's a bit of relaxation after Fez and Marrakech
Essouaira was cool. I stayed there for a week
Oh you did kitesurfing? Sounds good. Were you a beginner? I was actually a really good windsurfer and Essouaira is famous for windsurfing but I didn't have any equipment obv and I don't think it was very windy when I was there
Lol I'll look out for the hashish house. I would like to buy a donkey and travel across the Atlas mountains like that π with the donkey carrying my pack
OMGyou fell for those "guides". Embarrassing LOL π€£
But that's true! Those alleys just slurp you in... you're walking and walking and BAM, suddenly you're on some couch sitting with a Berber guy drinking oversugared tea trying to sell you pottery, smoking hashish or trying exchange you for 10000 camels.
Luckily I did a few of the sleepovers through couchsurfing so got a lot of good ins and outs from where I was staying and not too bad experiences.
I did some kitesurfing while living in Johannesburg so was not a beginner, but I'm definitely not an expert. And I'm probably not good at now.
And a donkey, that's the dream. I'll come visit when you set camp in paradise Ouzoud!
The weird thing was I said no to maybe 10 guides in a row and then this youngish guy came up to me and he had a long scar down his face (knife scar) and for some unknown reason I said "yes" π€π€¦ββοΈ Then we went on such a half-hearted tour, he didn't know shit about the history π and I ended up completely lost, we went to a "restaurant" which was his brother's house or something and they charged me like 100 dirhams for 3 tiny kebabs and then I was like "ok thanks for the tour" and when I went to pay him the amount we agreed he said "no that was the price for every 5 minutes" lol and then I said no you get the agreed amount and then he pulled a knife on me. I wouldn't get myself in that situation now but back then I was always needlessly getting into trouble
Lol yes! sitting with your newfound friends drinking mint tea, stoned at 2 am, in a carpet shop that is somehow open in the middle of the night π€£ thinking "how did this actually happen?"
I did stay with a Moroccan guy for a week at his house and that was interesting but every night he would get out the Koran and try and convert me. He spoke perfect English so that was good to talk to someone who could explain how everything worked there. I loved hearing the call to prayer from the minarets
I didn't even know it was Ramadan when I first went there so that was an experience
The worst part about trekking is carrying the pack so if I can buy or rent a donkey I'm going to do it lol
You're crazy π
Were you in Marrakech during Ramadan? I was also there during Ramadan one time.
It was so beautiful and therapeutic to watch the people pray outside the big mosque. That whole mainstreet was full!
There's an ice cream parlour across from it, I got a scoop, and sat on the sidewalk watching. It was like being in another realm.
Yes, I was there in Ramadan the first time I went on my own. I didn't even know it was Ramadan until I was eating something on the outside table of a cafe and a little kid came up to me and wagged his finger in my face, telling me off, then his mum came and dragged him away
I know, I liked watching the praying. I even liked being woken up by the minarets. I don't know if I saw the big mosque π€ I kind of just chilled in Marrakech. I went to the Djemaa el Fna a lot. Got scammed by the henna tattoo ladies ππ€¦ββοΈ
I really like the idea of Ramadan. Seems better than the overindulgence of christmas anyway
Talking about being in another realm, when I went with that female friend I mentioned, our first stop was Chefchaouen and she was in one of those painted blue streets full of men in djellabas and one wizened old guy getting money from an atm machine and she was like "is this real?" πclick to expand

I remember one time when I was traveling by train with you best friend from that time, we smoked fat joint in bathroom, git back to our cabin where were 4 more passsngers and I felt like me and my friend has wierd conversation and people were looking at us like wtf Lol. At one point we started laughing and people eventually one by one started laughing with us π
I had a dinner like that with hosts of a guesthouse I was staying in but me and 2 friends had eaten hash brownies and as we were eating dinner with the guesthouse owners we started laughing so hard and couldn't stop and they were looking at us like wtf these people are crazy. We were almost on the floor laughing so hard
Edibles it's not a joke, but it's my favorite way to get high. One time I got cookie and didn't remember how to take shower πππ
