do any of you veggies get butter off people for not eating meat? do you feel like people challenge you for your beliefs? i'm so curious about this. people i know seem to sneer at it, or they say, 'oh you can't have that can you, seeing as you don't eat meat.' as if i'm depriving myself of some great gourmet experience. it's fascinating, man. i would never impose my beliefs on others, i don't think it's fair to. majority of people were brought up to eat meat, so i understand why they'd carry on doing so. are they so defensive because a small part of them feels guilty about eating meat? or do they think you think you're superior to them in some way? maybe it's because vegetarianism isn't the dominant way of life. so it's just a dislike of something outside the norm. i don't want to be a defensive veggie, but i don't understand the backlash against it either. butter like this: woman in a resturant, walks up to the waiter. asks,'do you have any vegetarian options?' he leans down to the menu, points out something and says, 'yeah, this. it's called treetrunk off and eat meat.' TRUE STORY I SWEAR ON MY LIFE i don't get down on people for eating infant sheep, and dripping mint sauce onto that butter and calling it sunday dinner. are people secretly scared of veggies? we don't turn radioactive at midnight, singing the national anthem naked under a full moon. well, at least i don't

Fierce mild.
I'm not any longer, but the hubby has been a veggie for about 15 yrs and prolly always will be. I always felt it was more widely accepted in the UK. Got much more flack for it in the US. Hmm. Maybe that's not entirely fair. Some waiters and the like are very apologetic when they accidentally bring him the wrong thing. Others, say if he's gone to the gents or what have you, will lean down and ask me if he'll know the difference. Sheisty buggers. To answer your question tho, I think it's just some people's reaction to a difference of lifestyle or opinion. In my experience, it's the same sort of reaction you get from people when talking about homosexuality. The unwillingness to have a logical debate or discussion without resulting to offense. It's weird. |

It's weird. you know, i think you're right. about the unwillingness to be logical esp. i don't necessarily like getting flak for not eating meat. obv if it's done tongue in cheek, then okay. i can take a joke but alot of it comes across spiteful. it's not ok to jump on your soapbox about vegetarianism when it's really not your business |

Posted by Reason i find the best way (at least for me, Libra Asc or what) to get the message across is to speak calmly but confidently, without declarations .. generally, ppl listen or at least hear when i mention health benefits .. everyone i know of those who tried at least a temporary fasting from meat admitted feeling better of course they did, they're not eating dead animals with all those stress and fear hormones coming off them. maybe the people around you are just more flexible or you just have that calm influence that soothes them, then you go in for the kill and hypnotise them into the veggie life i could marry someone who eats meat, it's not that big of a deal. but why the snotty reactions? i confuse, lol |

I agree. I understand when a fixed venue gets complaints about lack of options though. Then it's the same flak, roles reversed when a veggetarian is the one giving it. Otherwise it's a personal choice and it doesn't roll over onto someone else. (somewhere in between is the friendly consideration of hosts :p) |

once i read that vegetables scream when you pull them from the ground...this was in a scientific encyclopedia. yikes! i'm verging on being vegan, but i'm not going to lie, it is difficult to align your principles with what's on offer around you: i.e what's more expensive, or in limited supply. i mean, really fruitarianism is another option. only eating stuff that's fallen from trees. but i have to draw the line somewhere |

"I'm a level 6 vegan; I don't eat anything that casts a shadow!" I forgot where that's from but it made me laugh Lol. Brings up how people became vegetarians. Not everyone joined the cause for the same reason :p

Posted by Reason yeah, but the same ppl who acknowledge the benefits of phat-free diet mostly get back to meat as they claim to miss it, even though they gain weight, etc. it's probably more a way of life thing, tradition, etc suppose it depends on your reasons, really. were you brought up vegetarian? if not, what made you stop eating meat? |

serious? you're rolling with the wrong ones, cos it's none of my business what people eat. it's rude to impose your beliefs on others but i do lecture about sugar...because i think it's akin to crack. it's done out of love
