I was very intrigued by it, until I read all the anti-scientology websites...and then became disturbed by the idea of it. I'm not really sure what to think, or if all I've read on both sides is mere propaganda. Your thoughts?
Hey Phoenix, I looked up sites about Scientology awhile back and also found mostly anti-Scientology sites but I didn't care. My thoughts are this, it was created by a Science Fiction writer. "Dianetics" looks like a comic book. And I've seen a quote by L. Ron Hubbard that said something like this "The best way for a man to make a million bucks would be to create his own religion" before he created it. Could be a hoax though. But even though it's not my cup of tea, it seems to make lots of people happy, in that case, if it makes you feel good do it!
Hey Lazlow--thanks for your reply! Yeah, I have no idea if it's all one big hoax to get money or not. I think I'll still read "Dianetics", just to SEE. I'm one of those people that I just have to see...I doubt I'll follow the religion itself, though. I don't really want to be hooked up to a contraption called an "e-meter" and be "audited". lol. I took their free psychological profile on the website and it told me I was "depressed and inhibited". Which kind of pissed me off, because I don't think I'm either...and I think they purposely try to make you think you have a problem so you think you need the religion to fix your life. But, I'll still read the book, to make a final decision on the whole thing. I can't believe L. Ron Hubbard said that. lol! Kinda weird, kinda disturbing...
LOL. . . Scientology just seems so funny to me. Maybe I'm shallow but I just assumed that it was a duh fake religion. I mean really, do you think there are alien souls stuck to you? It's all science fiction. And it's a great scam too, of course a tallented sci fi writer could write something seemingly so believable (although I don't find it believable but I suppose there's a lot of people who have tendencies towards religious fanatacism), that they'd pay a hell of a lot of money to join the "religion" (although it's more of a rich person's cult) and go through the treatment.
lol, yep, all of the above is pretty much where my head's at with it at this point, too.
Okay, disclaimer: if you are a Scientologist, I'm not trying to offend you. I'm saying what the religion *appears* to be, in my opinion, "thus far". If it brings you happiness, and makes you a better person, then good for you.
At this point though, it does seem very cultish. Very rich persons's cultish. Yes indeed.
