I think it depends on the Cancer. Me, I have a Cancer Moon and get along with Cancer women--they've been nice to me. I've only had one Cancer stab me in the back--all of the other Cancers I've known have been nice. My impression of people I haven't known well but that I've known to be Cancers is that they're quiet, sensitive, and artistic. I don't know a lot of Cancer men.
Some Cancers can fall into the emotional manipulation thing, but other Cancers can be very sweet. I think too it depends on *when* you are with the Cancer. If you catch them when they're moody then yes they can be scary lol but if you catch them at a good time, they can be sweet. It also depends on how much of their moods you can put up with. I have 4 water sign planet placements in my chart (Cancer Moon, Venus in Scorpio, Pluto in Scorpio, Jupiter in Pisces)and I can deal with that kind of stuff/have more of a patience for it. I imagine that someone with an air-sign moon or a fire-sign moon though might have a harder time dealing with the moods and emotions.
It also depends to me on if they're aware of their emotions/moods/other things or not. If they're aware of them and they try to control them, this is a much better situation; however, if they are controlled *by* their emotions, then you might need to take a break for awhile, let things cool off, and then re-connect.
