Ok, people should save and invest because they want to stretch their dollar during their youth, and not because they are planning for retirement. Can you imagine a fresh graduate/ young office worker telling you they are working hard because they want to plan for their RETIREMENT?

WHY begin so that you can see the end? The term "retirement planning" should be abolished. It is a depressing little phrase.

I agree. Besides, investments seem better at losing value than gaining these days anyway. Young people should focus on building up passive income sources. The other thing to work for is to be able to make a living following your true passions. When you can make a living doing something that you are good at, passionate about, and that pays well ... that's when you'll be happy, and you might not want to retire.

Back to passive income though, investments were supposed to generate that via rising stock prices, dividends, interest ... whatever. That's just not the case anymore. Especially by the time you take out taxes and adjust for inflation, there's just not much reward left over.

I'd rather have 2 acres with a fence around it and parking spaces that I charge people $ 25/month to park their boat or RV ... than say 50K in a mutual fund. The RV lot is going to generate revenue for the rest of your life without much trouble. If inflation goes crazy, you just raise your rates like everyone else.

There are many other ways to do passive income: website SEO and affiliate marketing to YouTube partners, rental properties, to having a full blown business w/ hired managers to do all the work for you.
