I'm a little unclear about the question. Are you asking, do we tend to listen the music that reflects our moods or mindset? If that was the question, then the answer is yes. When I'm feeling great & pumped up, I tend to listen to music that reflects that. But when I am going through a break up or a really bad time I find myself listening to those sappy love songs & yes, sometimes I feel like the artist is actually speaking to me OR couldn't have put the words better myself.

Now, if you're asking if I take it literal when someone sings to me, I'd have to say no.

That is what i meant, in the other thread it was stated that a s/o sang songs and someone put meaning to what they heard sung, thus, made me wonder, as i have had men sing in my presence to me, but i didnt take it so literal, but sometimes s/o can throw something at me and i will miss it..............

dear Gem Angel --

"Now, if you're asking if I take it literal when someone sings to me, I'd have to say no."

I would take it as literal, as music is the path or tool to ones psychy/heart/emotions. The person who sings it to you may have it in his repertoir. He may have put it there as it gets out the feelings in him that he likes expressing or experiencing. Nevertheless, YOU are the one who has brought those feelings out in him even if that song may be only momentarily. It even may turn into your future memories song....

I sing a lot of depressing songs around my SO. I was always worried that what I was singing was someday going to be taken literally. One day my fear was validated. I would really like to listen to more "happy" music, but I like emotional love ballads about how messed up life and love can be (and good too) so I can't imagine anything else. Art seems to imitate my life when it comes to music.
