When you are dating someone do you resist the urge to ask them their birth date/sign or do you ask them right off the bat? I went on a date last week and it was going "okay". Everything inside of me is telling me this man is a Cancer, but I didn't ask. I didn't ask him his sign largely because I just wanted to enjoy his company and get to know him and his personality over time. Isn't that the point of building a relationship? An hour into the date he asks me what my sign is... okay here it comes. I tell him, but don't ask him his. That seem to bother him a bit .

The date comes to an end and I still have no idea what his sign is. Initially, as I stated because I simply didn't care. I won't lie, I WAS curious, but refuse to ask. Part of the reason I stated above, but the other reason was because when I saw that it bothered him and that he was "gently" trying to get me to ask him, it then became a bit of a game for me. I'm thinking since he's so into signs that he should know that little ploy wasn't going to work on a Scorpio right? .

So the question...

Have you ever resisted the urge to learn someone sign when you are dating until it become unavoidable (e.g you've dated long enough and their birthday is about to roll around) and if so, why?

If you are the type of person that likes/needs to know, why?

By the way, what does "gently" trying to get me to ask him sound like:

Him: I always found horoscopes are a good way to get to know someone
Me: Hmmm
Him: Yeah, people are always surprise when they find out my sign because I am nothing like what they expect
Me: Hmmm
Him: Yeah.....
*change topic, about 10 minutes go by then*
Him: I have found that I am the most compatible with Scorpios and Taurus
Me: Really? How are you compatible?
Him:
Me: Oh, okay. sounds like we have a lot in common
Him: *stares and waits*
Me: So....those wings look good....

i usually ask anyone (not just romantic interests) who peaks my curiosity after a convo or two, lol. more to confirm my own guesses.

of course astro can color/taint your initial perceptions of someone but i think it's still possible to remain objective in getting to know them.

Yup, exactly. That was why I didn't want to ask. I know myself. Being the control freak that I am I didn't want to "learn all about him" and have it taint my perception of him. I also didn't want to have "insider information" (if that's really possible) and then use it to my advantage (e.g. being manipulative). I'm on a journey of personal growth, as corny as that sounds , so I am trying to do the opposite of what I usually do.

And no, I still don't know what his sign is . I still say Cancer based on our "courtship". It took him six freakin' months to ask me out after a lot of compliments and friendly, but aloof conversations.

i admire that, phoenix! i would've torn up his chart by now, lol.

i don't think it's necessarily manipulative though. i mean if you check the weather forecast and then prepare appropriately, that's wise, right? god won't give a fuck. (this is a bad analogy, but hey 😄) as long as you don't try to present yourself to someone based on their chart.

No, I think it's a great analogy. I just know myself when it comes to certain things....probably for another thread.

lol @ elly. i don't ask for a birth time until i'm close to someone and they know all about my astro obsession. 😛

In fact this post made me ask him randomly about if he had his birth certificate or did his mom. He said "Why, you stealing my identity—" Then started talking about go-carts.
