"Lilith Who Knew Love"
The Dark Moon Goddess
Sits on her throne
And is lost to an infinite expanse
Of shadows and regrets.

She feels the vein of humanity
Pulsing blood, red and warm.
She sees mortality
Grow and whither:
From the ignorant innocence of impatient youth
To the wizened feebleness of wrinkled age.
Now a ghostly weathered marker
Stands alone,
And leaves its shallow letters
To prove existence.
She never understands
The unreason of the living
And the quiet acceptance of the dead.

The Earth the exiled watch
Is cold, bleak,
Grey like long dried tears,
But not black and barren
Like the dark side
Of the moon.

She sees this,
Marks it all
With cool calculating eyes,
Her hardened face expressionless.
She is jealous.

With one soft hand,
The bone structure notably fine and frail,
Pressed firmly to her
Perfectly flat abdomen,
A pail woman drums her fingers
To no particular rhythm
And remembers her own mortality
Sold so long ago.

Blood lust, power hunger, vengeance,
All with remarkable feminine style :
She rips through the world
Knife in hand,
Betraying the child she'll never have,
Preying on a lapse of judgement,
Searching for her own sacredness
Among an inner toil of strength and desire,
With out thought to titles
Whether villain or heroine,
Vampiress, spawner of demons,
Mistress of treachery. . .
Her heart is colder
Than moon rock.

Still. . .
She cannot stop
The crying child
Nor silence Earthly song
While still playing Queen
To her devils
Floating out in space.

The garden gates are rusted shut.
She stands now apart,
A myth in a world of science,
Only a fading nightmare among all the others,
Like an actress in a silent movie
Glaring out at an absent audience.
Once vowed to the dark word Self,
What purpose now will she serve?

The Dark Moon Goddess
Sits on her throne
And cannot cry,
But for an instant
She can wonder about compromise.
And she alone remembers
The name of a god
Who once loved her too.
This she things for a moment.
Now she turns away.
