Throw in the towel? Gemini woman/Aqua Male

I started seeing this Aquarius (40M) about 3 months ago, and deep into COVID quarantine. We hit it off (like so many Gemini and Aqua pairings) and were averaging anywhere from 3-8 hours a date.

I was open from day 1 about what I was looking for (a partner) and he listened as if he was on board. When we talk about our relationship he expressed hesitation to move forward with the relationship due to his demanding career. He's not super relationship savvy and has struggled to share his feelings, or what he's looking for in a relationship.

We've had talks about what's not working (his lack of consistency, failure to make plans with me, using work as an excuse for everything). I've seen improvements, but when I think about them, I feel so stupid. Asking a man to ask me out to show he's interested? common! This is all sprinkled in with the magic: last week we went on a real date out to a restaurant and had a fantastic time.

I go back and forth on whether this relationship is all about slow pacing/timing, or if he knows I'm not right for him. I don't like the idea of giving up because we have a real connection, but sometimes a connection is not enough. But things started off slow.

The timeline was as follows:

The first date lasted 7 hours of just talking in my backyard over beer.

After 2 dates we kicked off the habit of staying up all night talking and seeing the sunrise from my living room/dining room

About 8 dates in he finally planted a kiss

10 dates in we ended up in bed and are spending more time together.

4 weeks in and he shows his disappearing acts

About 6 weeks, his inability to make plans with me drove me crazy and I ended things.

About 2 days later, he called to see if we could reconcile, we cried, held each other, and had makeup sex.

We're now about 3 months in.

Is there any room for 2 people in a relationship with an Aquarius male?

WIll the relationship only move forward if I ask?

Will he at one point feel comfortable taking initative?

What plans...?

@Undine - I'm not sure what you're referencing. But I'll expound on this:

"failure to make plans with me"

We were spending a lot of time together with him sleeping over, us eating whatever I cooked up, and him heading home sometime in the late afternoon. Then he would complain about not getting important things done. So I asked him to just make plans with me so our time was focused and didn't interfere with his busy schedule. He preferred the spontaneous meetups because it meant he didn't have to cancel when something else (I read: better) came up.

After we got back together, he asked me not to let too much time go by without voicing my hurts, concerns, grievances. I mentioned "making plans with me" was important, and he's starting to take initiative.

They don't like rules and if you can play on their arena they rather go and find someone who does. But they do like ppl expressing themselves. The more open you are the more open they be too. But with gem you cant take it too seriously. Even if you really love them , I would not let them see that im head over heels for them. This guys are tuff to express their real feelings and sometimes even if they feel it they wont say it ( but they will show you by their actions, pay attention) . haha... Only thing I love about Geminis is that they are sex hungry.
