we sure are antsy and i loath being bored !!! it drives me nuts !! i sell electronic components and we're hurtin' big time !! i talk to alot of americans all day (i'm from canada) and had the opportunity to express my utter horror over 911 !! it was difficult talking to them....everyone was in shock and trying to come to terms with it. I still can't believe it and it shakes me to my very core when i remember some of those images !!! i hope you are all getting back to some sort of normalcy...i suppose it will never be the same again....anyways, so what do you do to eleviate the boredom ? are things slow where you work too ?

Hi Willie!

I hate being bored too! Although, I am rarely bored at work...we are usually too busy to even think about things other than work! I am an RN...it is always challenging, so, it suits me...but, then I need to unwind...that is where the message board comes in for me...

Thanks for your concern over 911...you are right...we will never be the same...there are a lot more flags flying and billboards with our national anthem and other patriotic sayings...

We are more united though...

Will they let you bring toys to work? I saw a guy playing with those juggling sticks at his job...but, he worked in a toy store...

Take Care!

Hi Willie!

Yeah, I do hate it when people are not allowed to play with toys at work! LOL!

I am very sorry to hear about your brother. What a tough hand to be dealt!
In one of my jobs I got to know a man named Gary well. He was a quadriplegic and had a tracheotomy...and he was young...he had also fallen...down a flight of stairs...

He mostly remained with his humor intact, but, would sometimes cry...and sometimes laugh and cry at the same time...
It was a very sad thing indeed...

I just recently got to know his sister better...it is odd how people come in and out of our lives...

His mother was so controlling...but, who can blame her? She hugged me one day...and, even though it shocked the s*** out of me...I knew that it meant I was "OK" in her book...I mean, even the best were intimidated by her...

Hey...hope your boredom improves...
Ever consider Nursing School?

Hey Willie!

LOL about the bears!

Yeah, it is tough raising kids...I used to think doing it alone was tough...but, now it is old hat! I do think I have given her an attitude about men though and made her shy away from letting anyone (except family and a very few friends) get too close...she is very guarded at times, yet speaks her mind freely...
For the most part I am way proud of her...but, we do have our fights and sometimes I wonder if I could have done better...
But, it is in the past...and I can't change it!

What about you? Did you have to do any of the raising of your children alone? Are you close?

Good luck in pursuing your dream of being helicopter pilot! I have no doubt you will succeed! You seem to be a pretty determined person, eh?

Oh...one other thing..I tried to start earlier...thought I was pregnant at the age of 21...but, it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy (in the fallopian tube and not in the uterus). It was very painful, and distressing for me. I had a hard time dealing with the fact that I was pregnant, but, the child could not be born! I even asked before they removed my tube, if there was any way to transplant the baby from my fallopian tube to my uterus...but, they said they could not take the risk...there could be too much damage...so...
I eventually thought I would never get pregnant! Surprise! I was wrong 'em boyo!
But, happy...even though it can be tough!! LOL!

Hey...feel free to e-mail me!
I get sick of some of the freaks on the sites! So, it is nice to talk to someone sane! LOL!

hey star !! did you have a good weekend ?? mine was great thanks......had a total blast with the girls....we do this as often as we can..it's a nice break !! i raised my daughter alone until she was 7 and then i remarried.....i think we all think we could have done a better job when we look back but all you can do is the best 'you' can do....she sounds like a pretty good kid to me...i've heard horror stories from some parents....to me, it seems parents are more interested in not arguing with their kids instead of teaching them respect, manners, appreciation, consequences for their actions.....etc.....i see it ALL the time and it drives me crazy...i was pretty strict with my kids in that i didn't let them away with anything and they were always told ''why'' they were being disciplined and were told not to come downstairs until they were ready to apologized and after they apologized, i made them tell me ''why'' they were apoligizing....just saying it isn't good enough...they need to know ''why'' !!! parents seem very nonchalant about their kids ''very bad attitudes'' today !! just listening to my friends kids makes me want to throw up !! mouthy, inconsiderate and selfish....that is all i see and hear out of these kids....it makes me very weary and sad to see this...especially since innocent people are now subjected to their attitude...and star...it sounds like you are really trying to instill some 'meaning' into your daughters life and 'that' is a very difficult task today...especially when other parents aren't !! you know, it's like...you're trying to teach your child what ''really'' matters out there and then they are hanging with kids who have attitude and it seems like all your efforts are in vain...because they are seeing the exact opposite of what your teaching them and i really think the 'teaching' parents of today are far and few between...from what i've seen anyways....so the parents that are trying have to deal with their kids saying..''well, so and so doesn't have to or so and so got one''..i give you full credit star for doing this on your own and still being able to say ''you're proud'' of her !! that pretty much says it all !! i will get into my kids on your private email....i don't have email at home or i would give you mine but i'll give you my work email when i send you one ok !! speaking of work, i better get back to it.....it was nice chatting with you and i will send an email on your other one ok !!!! take care and have a good day !!

Hi Willie!
That would be excellent! I am looking forward to hearing from you personally through e-mail!

You are so right about the attitude factor of today...I even feel it on the message boards!

I do get compliments from strangers about the fact that my daughter is polite! Weird! To me, that should just be something that we teach along with so many other things!

I have enlightened a few of the nurses I work with about the changing population...at this point, most of the population we deal with, respect authority, but, we are soon, going to have a population of patients who do not! It looks to me that the patients I have that are 50 and younger are quite controlling...not, that, that is bad...it depends...
Eventually, I anticipate patients who will expect me to clean their tongue ring for them, etc....and will totally tell us where to go if we do not comply with their wishes!

At least I will be prepared! I saw attitudes in the 12-14 age group 12 years ago! There was one boy I had as a patient who would do nothing we wanted...I was told that in report! It surprised me at the time that the nurses didn't try harder...but, when I met him, I could see what they meant...it seemed no matter what I tried, I couldn't reach him...I tried humor, asking about his cards and pictures, I tried expanations of pneumonia from being in traction...the poor boy had two broken legs and couldn't change position...
I finally was able to reach him by being totally whacky! I emptied his catheter bag and said, "Excuse me while I go drink this!" He laughed, and said, "You are really a lunatic, you know that?" I said "Yes, I know! They told me that is what they wanted when they hired me! So, now are you going to use this spirometer? (for breathing) or not...if not, you will have me! checking on you every 15 minutes! I will check on you every hour minimum! ...It ended up that he wanted me every 15 minutes...so we could talk, laugh and he could do the coughing and deep breathing like he was supposed to!

My talent is not especially in the diagnosis, but, in the patient area and how to help them do what is best for them...

Take Care Willie!
You are a good friend!
