Being set up

...as in on a date.

Do you mind it? Any good stories or bad stories/experiences? And how about blind dates?


I for one hate the idea. Friends have tried it with me and have almost had to drag me kicking and screaming, but I put my game face on and am calm and collected in front of the guy.

Zero success stories for me 🙂 And yet still my friends keep trying. I think they'd stop if they knew how much I actually do date. I just dont kiss and tell.

All in all I have mixed feelings. Hate the idea, but love meeting new people.

Blind date... oh HAIL to da NO! It'll never happen.

I've been on a few. Mostly friends and family set me up because they thought that I needed to stop working so much and needed to meet a girl. Met a bunch of really great women. I'm even still friends with some of them. But it really seems like everything feels so put on. Maybe it's me though, I'm kind of a giant nutball and it takes a while for people to adjust. I'd rather catch a girl completely off guard in her own element anyway than go on another blind date. Most of them were double dates too so I was there mostly as a friend and not really looking for anything. Doesn't mean I won't do it again. I mean I always try to have fun good or bad.

I remember on this one date there were a whole bunch of awkward pauses in the conversation and I kept trying to get her going but the girl just didn't have anything to say, she wasn't the shy type either. It was going downhill fast so I ended up counting up all the awkward silences in my head and it turned into this really fun game, well for me anyway. Good times.

On another date I ended up getting knocked out by the end of the night because I took this girl to the batting cages and she was kind of short so I had to duck a bit to show her how to swing and ended up taking a couple of fastballs to the noggin. She also had this wicked backswing that would hit me in the stomach a couple times. I felt bad for her because she had to spend the rest of the night with me at the hospital until someone picked me up.

Great, now I'm reminiscing and my head hurts hahahaha!

I've been single for several months now and back into dating for a few of those months after years of being in one relationship after another. Yea I'm with you on the headache. For me... both dating and being single is overrated, however it is that you enjoy it... so I'm kinda screwed. Ehem... and not even properly screwed at that... -_- So now I just say eff it. I'm out to impress myself with good clean fun.

I usually go into it without any expectations and then end up on the short end of it all because usually the other person has expectations. Mostly because it's the person who sets you up whose fault it really is because they can sell you short or build you up too much. usually I just tell them to just set a time and date and I'll figure the rest of it out on the fly.

It's even worse when you're in relationship purgatory and people force you to go out and try to get you back in the "game". I mean come on! Let me figure some shit out first.

I'm glad you're having fun when you do engage, probably the best thing that can come out of any of these situations is a good time and a couple stories to tell. I sure as hell have a lot of stories.

well... you know more of the expectations tend to come from the chics side. most single girls are ready to meet a great guy and most guys balk when they hear a friends gf say 'she has a greeeat personality!'

And that's the whole thing... you could end up with a stage 5 clinger, a fool, or someone just ready to get their serial killin feet wet.

but the whole ted bundy thing... what freaks me out about that... cold case files and stuff you see on the news... most of the time those people had known each other for yeeeaaaars ...then all of the sudden!

My flatmate used online dating for a while.. he was very desperate for a girlfriend and went out for pizza with various no-hopers. Quite amusing. But then he settled for his best friends girlfriend, thus breaking up his entire band. ( How gemini, whether he admits it or not 😉 )

plus there's the whole putting your friend who set you up in the middle of things... its all bad.

i introduced my bff to a now ex... a relationship that ended really sour. yea, even then i felt bad for being the one who introduced the two. it wasnt even a setup and i still feel bad.

Never got set up for a blind date. I'd probably decline anyway. I like to generate that myself, I like using my own senses to determine what's good for me. It's not always right but it's mine, sooo ... it's all good.

It happened again... my friends tricked me into one... double date...

and you know how halloween is coming up? we started talking about costumes... my friends started coming up with costumes for 'my date' that paired with mine... &^% & $ % ^#^#&% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF! WHY—?!!!!

then proceeded to hound me... 'what do you think of him?!' over and over again. the thing is... he's cool... AND attractive, but that doesnt mean shits goin down.

haha... i've actually been telling my friends to set me up with a blind date! not because i need it (believe u me, i do NOT have problems finding men to date or otherwise) but simply for shits and giggles! i wanna play and have fun with the whole idea and experience it just once. if i have lotsa fun then i will continue to do it. i am not mean so i will eventually tell my date what my intentions are. then again who knows, right? maybe we'll have so much fun that we'll be attracted to each other and go from there.

of course there is this other part of me that just wants to go buck wild with the idea. when i say play i mean play! i wanna be a different character each time as if i were putting on a performance. i have lots of ideas for this. one time i wanna show up wearing absurd clothing that would make me stick out like a sore thumb. another i wanna be painted up like a french whore and wear ultra-revealing clothes. in another i will look all normal but exhibit obscene behavior and use bad etiquette. of course none of this can ever affect my wait-person (we'll most likely go out to eat something cuz it's cliche) so i don't get my food tampered with. the list goes on... i will also have to make sure my dates are located in areas not too close to home. so no seattle or outer-lying cities/towns. i am found in the public eye a lot due to my occupations and i have somewhat of an image to uphold. i think i'll focus my attention on my home-town area. i could give a rat's ass what any of the ppl think there. i'd have nothing to lose. plus it's a navy town so the ships are always coming and going. perfect!

now now, i'm pretty sure i wouldn't act on this. it is just really fun to fantasize about. i think this appeals to me so much because of my being a leo with aqua rising. this would give my leo side the opportunity to perform and be rather flamboyant and dramatic about it. my aqua side loves the idea of causing mischief, the weirdness implied, and stirring shit up just to see the reaction. damn this sounds like so much fun! i'm too soft on ppl though and don't wanna hurt anyone which is why i probably won't do it. curses!
