Maybe it should be water encapsulates Air..or isolates air....like a bubble.

I think Earth has the edge over Fire, despite what other astrology readings I've seen...like, Fire can scorch earth..but that's just the surface, there's still rock underneath, despite what fire can throw at earth all it would succeed in doing is making earth stronger.

Also just because some are listed as positive and negative, doesn't necessarily mean that those effects would yeild positive results.

Like take Air and Fire for instance...exactly.

go back to another thread when one particular fire sign poster stated that they could 'ice' out a person. I personally think that if pitted against a person who is an earth sign, that person would be much more effective at 'icing' someone out than a fire person can..just for the simple fact that 'putting up walls' and isolation is part of the MO of earth signs.

Interesting topic, I guess each combination of the elements can have its plus and minuses even if they're supposedly compatible. The air and fire combo has always puzzled me somewhat, Fire consumes Air, that's a plus for fire but a minus for air. Earth/Water, water can nourish the earth, but it can also erode the earth as well. Earth can provide stability or shape to water but also impede its flow. I think you nailed it with Fire/Earth. I've got nothing for water and air...rain...condensation maybe😛 I guess no sign/element combination is truly perfect for one another and balance is the element that wins out in the end.

nice post..hadn't even thought that far..but those are good.

Water can't smother air because air is less dense and will bubble straight through it towards the surface and just escape.

If water is hot enough it can join air. 😉

If air cools down enough it can join water. But that doesn't really make much sense astrologically. 😛

That was great...and it does..because (IMO) i think one sign has elements of both air/water. Plus one needs 'air' to make 'water'..oxygen anyone?

Air

Air moves air.
Air moves and carries water.
Air moves, erodes, nourishes, and carries earth.
Air moves, feeds, or extinguishes fire.

Water

Water collects water.
Water cools fire down to keep it from using it's fuel too quickly, or extinguishes it.
Water moves, carries, and erodes earth.
Water weighs down and cools air.

Earth

Earth collects earth.
Earth fuels, guides, protects from, and extinguishes fire.
Earth holds or guides water.
Earth protects from and guides air (think going underground from a tornado).

Fire

Fire collects fire.
Fire consumes and and moves air.
Fire evaporates and moves water.
Fire consumes and can move earth (think lava).

For the lava-fire-earth contributions, if we're doing a science wise bases does lava count for fire if lava is still rock, just heated up to molten? It still has it's organic earth properties and scientific elements mostly, but just increased temperature. Where as it doesn't have the straight fire properties of a flame or oxidation as a requirement and the heat and flow and time emitted depending on the elemental properties of the actual rock that's molten.

Fire require oxygen, but there's also many times where fire requires a fuel source too. Not exactly and definitely like oxygen, but most fires we as humans are actively involved with require some sort of fuel start up, normally from an earth stand point.

In terms of relation to astrology, I've absolutely no clue what that should be interpreted as haha. Just some of the things I might have partially retained from all my science classes. And even those could be wrong lol.

very old, But i didn't want this post to completely die without saying that I completely agree with lava being a part of earth as opposed to an element of fire. I was going to post something similar but couldn't get the right wording.

But yah, I think it's spot on.
