With the onset of the Academy awards and the independent Spirit awards coming up, there has been so much hype yet there seems to be MORE award shows created just to honor people in entertainment and it's just downright irritating...I mean, why are we really awarding these people? Do they truley deserve a pat on the back for being in a movie or tv show? Did they find the cure for cancer or help find some effective panacea to thwart our ever growing national deficit? Nooooooooooo. So why honor these people? Don't get ne wrong--I LIKE entertainment and being entertained but why the hell should we watch these people--AND have you noticed that it seems to be the SAME celebs getting the attention? God...Hollywood is so high school--it's an f'n popularity contest.

Here are some others....
SAG awards
Independent Spirit awards
Blockbuster Movie awards
MTV awards
The People's Choice awards
Golden Globes
Caan Festival
The BAFTA awards
The Gotham awards (in NYC)
The Grammy's
Sundance
and the Let's have another award show just for the hell of it award show

Did I for get any?

April baby..
Thanks for you input although I still feel the need to stand by my conviction here. I understand the real need to support the arts--I went to art school and have an art bachground so I will immediately agree with you on that level. But, in all mediums of art, Hollywood seems to get all the kudos and there really have been more awards shows created by executive producers over the past 10 years. I say "enough"!! I just don't think that we need an actor's credentials rubbed into our faces via television. I'd like to see more woman (and men) painters, sculptors, illustrators, filmmakers and all other medums of art get some limlight for once. Now THOSE are the kind of people we should applaud--they add beauty to this world.

This is my take on awards nights:

SAG awards: 'My plastic surgery has SAGGED' Awards.

Independent Spirit awards: Sponsored by the local liquer comnpany.

Blockbuster Movie awards: 'Actors not in our movies need not apply' Awards.

MTV awards: "Mumma, They're Vile" Awards.

The People's Choice awards: 'Choice cut of meat Awards', cos at the end of the day, we are nothing but a piece of meat.

Golden Globes: 'I've got to get my award before i reach my Golden years', Awards, because at the end of the day, once im out of my thirties, im not longer viable.

Caan Festival: About the only credible award ceremony in the world.

The BAFTA awards: The 'Be A Fat Tart Always' Awards (i don't know where i got that from, it just sounded good).

The Gotham awards (in NYC): 'We couldn't think of anything else to call them Awards', so we thought we'd cash in on Batman.

The Grammy's: Rhymes with "Granny's" doesn't it?

Sundance: Our attempts to bring the awards back to nature and give them a hippy feel.

I know, it's not like they CARE about the rest of the world. It's just a mutual masturbation committee. I'd rather my humble life anyday.

Well..as stated in the news as of late, I'm very glad to hear that the pre-oscar show and papparazzi has been cancelled in regard to the onset of the war in Irag. As mentioned by Producer Gil Cates, it would be "done in poor taste" if the pre show were to go on and I couldn't agree any more. Way to go Gil! Right now, what's important is this country's freedom and saftey, not who's wearing what gown and all that hoopla crap.

Well I'm glad the damn academy awards are over with now..Of course egotists like Michael Moore just had to "mouth off" about Bush and the war when they were all told to keep a tight lip. It's about the awards--not the war. Moore's a great filmmmaker but he's just an example of the inflated audacity that these Hollywood types are. I didn't vote for Bush but don't bash him on a widely televised show is all I have to say. Poor taste.
