i've always greatly enjoyed these heroic true-life accounts; the stark realism, the brutal death-defying challenges to survive against all odds.. 'some are lucky, unfortunately many pay the ultimate price! 'you can only imagine the pain and fear they suffered.. 'for this genre of books, i only like true accounts though; it has to be real. If it were man against man, himself or machine, i could go either way.. 'fiction or non; some of the best adventure/survival movies are fictional..*Flight of the Phoenix, Vertical Limit, Cast-Away, to name a few..

The Perfect Storm: Sebastian Junger: Hurricane Grace & the doomed 'Andrea Gail'; i really liked the movie too. Both beauty and danger in the Xtreme!!)

Into Thin Air: Jon Krakauer: A personal account of the Mt. Everest disaster.

Miracle in the Andes: 72 Days on the Mountain. 'In October 1972, a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team crashes in the Andes. Not immediately rescued, the (freezing) survivors turn to cannibalism to survive.' *gold standard* my favorite, the best non-fiction i've ever read; have to read it again!!!! =)

Into the Wild: Jon Krakauer.. haven't read this one yet ..'After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $ 24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska. Four months later, he turned up dead. His diary, letters and two notes found at a remote campsite tell of his desperate effort to survive, apparently stranded by an injury and slowly starving.'

*just a small list so far..'if anyone knows any similar kinds of reads, let me know!' *S* ..
