So i'm working with a bunch of incompetent inconsiderate bastards who don't even know they suck at what they do. I've always quit my job, unless it was just the end of a contract or something temporary.

First time i'm on my own though, UNCERTAINTY!!!! WHOOOOOO!!!!!

Anyway, what are the things to include in a "official" letter? I can't leave too soon because i'm the only one doing what i do and there's a ton of work, but i can't wait!!!!

Why isn't just a plain letter stating when you will be leaving sufficient? You are not obligated to put an explanation in the letter, but be prepared for questions once you hand in the letter. The less emotional your answer, the better. You can say you have decided to seek a different opportunity, a more (or less) challenging position, or something that gives you more free time for personal pursuits.

"I will be leaving my position effective two weeks from today, on Thursday, August 3, 2006."

I've ended up hating every job I've ever had, and it's usually the lack of any semblance of a work ethic by my coworkers. It makes things very difficult for those of us that only call in sick when we really are sick, and those of us who insist on finishing our own work so that no one has to finish it for us...(gee, I'm not bitter....🙂) Anyway, I have never been fired; I've always quit...I think it's the smarter person who realizes a job isn't for them, isn't working out, whatever - as early on as possible and moves on. It's all about growth in life. Learn what you can so you can put it on a resume for the next better and higher-paying job, but don't stay so long that it breaks your spirit.

I'd really love to be my own boss someday...!
