crabby trait?

Hello all just recently met a cancer man.
We met through mutual friends n met each other couple of
Times before but there was nothing.
He came to a party one night n something was different this time
He looked at me differently n was laying both of his hands on my waist time
To time. (guys, why do you do this? What is this gesture of laying both
Your hands on woman's waist?)
We had a lot in common, he said we should catch up n I agreed.
I didn't chase up on it as I thought it was one of those meaningless 'yeeeaaah we so should do that!'
But he ended up contacting me in couple of weeks n made plan for lunch in 3 weeks time.
I went to his house n made 3 course meal (I'm an excellent cook btw)
Had a great time (again with the waist touching, seriously what is that?)
He was very courteous, set up a lovely romantic table for lunch.
Got a msg later that night saying he had sn amazing day that we should do it again.
Couple of days later I came down with food poisoning n he called to check on me n offered to
Drop off medicine (I said no I'm fine)
Sounds all ok from the above right? But something
Feels funny....
Feels he's holding something back n there's a shell.
Sometimes he seems very friendly n wants to talk but sometimes
He cuts the conversation very short. I'm quite confused.
What do u think?

Oh!
he has lots of friends (lots of lady friends i assume as well, and I think he is a quite flirty person).
The weird feeling I'm having is that he is just seeing a lot of other ppl!
