this is a cold season..and I have this dry, chapped lips problem

sometimes they're soft & okay
but other times they are dry..chapped
like 3 days in a week, they're good
the other 4 days they're bad lol

I use lipbalms..
but I heard some beauty tips from my friends recently..which can be done easily at home, sans much preparation:

1. green tea leaves lip moisturising
-make a cup of green tea
-let it cool
-soak a cotton pad with it
-apply it on your lips & wait for 15-30 minutes
-remove & repeat this daily

2. milk lip moisturising
-prepare milk
-soak a cotton pad with it
-apply it on your lips & wait for 15-30 minutes
-remove & repeat this daily

I haven't tried those yet, but I'm going to tonight..and will come back with result within a week or two..

are there any other tips for cry/chapped lips?

also, which brand lipbalm do you use/like?
and why?/why do you like it?

Olive oil for cooking, YES! Extra Virgin is prob best, least processed (that's what I use). As for my skin, for the life of me I couldn't find a moisturizer good enough, especially in the winter. Olive oil is pretty much like using straight vitamin E and no additives! I use lemon juice as an astringent as well (vitamin C is good for your skin) and vinegar to keep my dandruff under control as it helps maintain a scalp's PH. Garlic is a miracle cure too... but, ummm, yeah, you were asking about lip balms...

Awesome! Mine get really bad during the winter, also. And I have a problem always picking the dead skin, but sometimes it's the only way I can get rid of them or I end up looking like I've been smoking crack. The corners of my mouth split open due to dryness. I know, gross. I use Rose lip salve and it helps a bit.

I'm going to try the milk moisturizer, Thanks!

you sound like to have the exact same problem with lips as I do..lol I feel the pain

Yes, I have this problem as well. And I'm a picker like Miss Fisk. Nothing more hot than a pair of crusty bleeding lips. To curb the urge to pick I take a little bit of Vaseline and a soft tooth brush and brush my lips, gets all the dry skin off gently and moisturizers. I wipe it off after and apply lip balm. I like Blistex Deep Renewl.

yes..I tend to pick the dead skin, too and it hurts & bleeds bad 😢

I use vaseline, too..but sometimes lips are in too bad a condition and vaseline does not help much 😭

blistex is a good lipbalm 🙂 haven't tried deep renewal though..maybe I should 🙂

Layna, the lemon juice I use on my face, vinegar in my hair (olive oil as my moisturizer - great deep conditioner too BTW). Garlic has nothing to do with face or scalp, but is a great anti-fungal. Speaking of which, a garlic wash (a rinse made with fresh crushed garlic - just don't heat over 90F) probably would work great for the scalp as most dandruff is actually a strain of yeast, can work on athletes foot and jock itch as well as a topical (for the women, pop a peeled clove in - NO JOKE!).

AGAIN, this thread was about lip balm... sorry *hangs head*

yes..shea butter. jojoba oil..argan..moroccan.. all good stuff I heard 🙂

and sugar...especially brown sugar is good 🙂
no talks needed about honey too!

I also heard that:

-prepare honey & brown sugar
-mix them up nicely
-apply it on your lips
-leave it for 10-20 mins
-remove with warm water
-repeat this daily

so many good tips from everyone!
it'd take weeks to try all of those! 🙂

I made my own lip scrub out of coconut oil and sugar. It's pretty awesome at getting those pesky flakes off and the coconut oil moisturizes the lips nicely, like a 2 in 1 scrub and balm I guess.

I was gonna say this as well, I live in NYC and it gets brutal here in the winter. Coconut oil works really well on it's own (although you have to apply it every 10 minutes if your lips are very dry, they will drink it up), or mixed with some unrefined sugar as a scrub(the processed and bleached sugar like Domino irritates the crap out of my skin).

so after nearly two weeks..
I am back with the result
of the milk mosturising recipe..

1) it worked fine for me
- quite quick moisturising result
- cheap and easy to prepare (a big bonus)

2) but unfortunately, for some unknown reasons, my very dry, chapped lips stopped being so dry, but began to heal themselves..i.e., I really did not and could not see how efficient the milk recipe worked on the dry lips.. :s
(I only had three days to go with the recipe lol but during those three days, it worked fine 🙂 hence the #1..)

I might come back later to this thread..if my lips become dry again..then probably try other recommendations mentioned here by others..to see how each of them works 🙂
