It's the title to a chapter in Susan Miller's most recent book. She continues:

"Here is the most important point to always remember about rising signs and Sun signs.

You have two charts. You have your Sun sign chart, and assuming you can find out your time of birth, you have your custom natal chart. You must read for both signs, forever, for taken together, they form a blend that is uniquely you."

This has probably been discussed previously, but as a novice student of astrology, I find this interesting. She asks, "Have you ever read a description of your astrological Sun sign and wondered, 'Why does that sign not sound like me?'There's a good reason for that"

I noticed that other posters, such as TBC, feel that their rising sign is very influential to their makeup, perhaps even more so than their Sun sign.

Are we mostly Gemini + ascendent = ?

So, my answer to your question is that we are actually:
Asc/Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus/Mars/Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune/Pluto

Very interesting. Sooo...you would put the ascendent first? Hmmm...trying to figure out if I feel more like a Scorpio or a Gemini.

Thanks for your insight, EG! After reading that chapter it got me thinking about ascendants. I'm a Leo ASC, and though I don't "feel" like a Leo, ive been told I appear "regal". I guess that's where it comes from. The aries I'm dating says I'm his "queen". Now I get it!
EG, are there instances where the ASC can seem to overshadow, if you will, the sun sign? Does it depend on that sign? I ask because I dated someone who had a Cancer ASC, who felt he was more of a Cancer than an Aqua. Also, I have read thebigcarlos describe the same phenomenon, feeling more scorpionic than twin like.
Are Gems more prone to this because of our duality?
I'd love to hear your take on the subject.

My Leo rising manifests itself partly in my appearance, and was nurtured in part by my upbringing, as you said. I had lofty dreams for what I wanted in life as a child, but my ambitions were dismissed as frivolous and impractical. Perhaps that's where the fixed Leo ASC kicked in, digging my heels in, and roaring back in reaction.

Your description of a Cancer ASC also hit the mark. The Aqua I dated was abandoned by his mother as a child, and he definitely had "mommy" issues. Those experiences probably made his ASC more pronounced, as you suggested.

I'm curious about the ASC of other Gems on this board. There seems to be a wide variety of expressions amongst us.

So, let continue with the two Venus Rising Signs of Taurus and Libra because they share similar themes. To get a sense of these signs think of Venus. Imagine Venus gazing into her mirror and appreciating the image reflected back at her. Through her reflected image, her self-esteem and identity flourishes. Venus Rising therefore seeks to reflect back to the world one's capabilities in the most personally satisfying (Taurus) and attractive manner (Libra) possible.

What distinctly separates Taurus and Libra Rising most is their evolutionary purpose and how these two signs define themselves in relationship to others. In Taurus, the first of the two Venus ruled signs, Venus is developing her sense of values and her identity is closely related to her self worth and the value she places on the things that she desires.

Venus is young in Taurus, so her core identity is still forming and is heavily influenced by her parental home (usually Taurus Rising has a fourth house cusp in Cancer, which is symbolic of the mother, or Leo, which is symbolic of the father). I never really understood why I was so emotional seeing how many air placements I have. I turned away and then looked back at what you wrote again and read it over twice. The control part that you added...well all of it is true especially the control part.

But this phrase really made me think, because I don't believe anything has been so accurate, "So your interpersonal dealing with others are quite emotionally charged. You might find that while you want to be nice and pleasing in your presentation and dealings with others, things that abruptly triggers your emotions might make you suddenly defensive and self protective. You might also find that you have a strong intuitive grasp of people and that your instincts are seldom wrong."

I can't tell you how TRUE that is. My intuition is very seldom wrong. I trust it blindly. And I am usually 99% right.

This is so accurate :O "...your personality has a very strong self-protective shield in place that keeps people at a safe distance in order to defend yourself and give you a sense of personal security. Self expression may not come easy for you, or your personal expression may be very well thought out and executed with direct boldness. Restraint, caution and defensiveness comes natural to you. ....you are always on the lookout for trespassers with ill intent." I'm not sure how responsible I am though. You have a unique way of synthesizing information that goes beyond any astrology site Ive ever visited. On many sites, when I look up the ASC traits, there is a tendency for the authors to simply cut and paste the sun sign's description in the ASC description of the same sign. In contrast, you've given nuanced readings with uncanny accuracy.
Your tone lacks judgment and blame, which makes you successful and sought after counselor.

Misslissa, you mentioned that you are a Leo ASC as well. Do you relate to EG's statement that self esteem (or lack thereof) is a theme in your life?
