I am an attractive, nicely proportioned, intelligent gal & have been widowed for 6 years. I know there are lonely people out there looking for me. Why can't I connect?
Libra widow seeking compatible friend
I think you can. I wouldn't try to find someone through this message board!! This is strictly for boredom and entertainment. I am interested to know what the ages are of the people responding on this board. I am 41
Regarding your study of users, I am 60 but I note from the gist of the messages a lot of much younger people are posting.
Right you are about this not being the site for meeting people but the problem is any chat room I have looked appears to be occupied by people with nothing but sex on their mind.

Try your local papers. They ususally have singles sections in them. Don't try the websites at all. You'll only be disappointed. Good luck.
Also, I forgot to mention, you might want to join a club of some sort--any kind--where you can meet someone interesting. Join a tennis club, golf or horseback riding, etc. Being involved in a community that involves other people is the best and most honset way. Just don't bother with the bars!! It NEVER works!
Hey Sloane!
I disagree with you regarding the websites...I met my best friend that way! And, now, it looks like we may progress to a more serious level...
Truth is, though, that it took much TIME and PATIENCE!
I answered his ad! Many men will put out an ad, but are too shy to answer a woman's ad...
It helps if you are intuitive about what a person is like...e-mail first and if you do not feel comfortable...do NOT meet this person! Delete their e-mails, etc...
If you feel comfortable...meet in a public place the first time...do not tell where you live, etc.
Go from there! I met many men just once! Then I met a very special guy!
The sites I liked best were americansingles.com and oneandonly.com...you can place a free ad, but, it costs to answer ads...
To Whomever Is Taking The Age Poll:
I am 43.
Good Luck! There are still good men out there!
Take Care!

It is up to you about posting a picture on your ad...
I am attractive and proportional also...I had WAY too many responses when I had a picture posted! I live in Minnesota...I had responses from California, Maine, and every other Tom, Dick, and Harry in between!
It took too long to weed them out!
I deleted that ad and started over without a picture!
For me, it was more comfortable...but, I am an Aquarian and we like to take things slow...
When perfect strangers are trying too hard to charm us...we tend to laugh...not that we mean to be rude..it just makes us uncomfortable!
Best Wishes!

Oh...and about the chat rooms...tried that...all about sex, alcohol, etc...
But, did meet a nice guy from England...because I was the only one talking to him normal! We are e-mail friends...
For the most part, chat rooms are for the desperate!

It's the widow back again to respond to all the kind souls & suggestions. To sloane, I golf 5 days a week but seem to only encounter married men or couples. As far as the cautions, I have been down the garden path & have a pretty good head on my shoulders. I would never take a chance in meeting someone I didn't know & trust in any circumstance but a very public place.
I will try the two chat locations that were suggested & am still open to any further advise. Thanks for your interest.

Star, hello!
Glad to hear that the websites worked for you. And it's nice to hear that your English buddy likes you and that the both of you correspond well. You just might fall in love with England!

Hi!
Have you been to England?
I love England and Ireland...having heritage in both, as well as Scotland..but I guess it is Scotch-Irish, which is a different thing?
Yeah...it was fun...sort of...but, I met more losers than winners! You have to go with your gut...I got better at that with time...for some reason, at first, I thought I had to meet everyone I talked to! Silly me! (I grew up in such a small town! Population 83...that I am still just a small-town girl underneath!!!)
Nice talkin' to you Sloane!
Take Care!

Wow! 83 people--that IS small for a town. No I haven't been to England yet but have dreamt of it ever since I was a young child--I don't know why--I guess it's a yearning for travel maybe or something spiritual--hell I think that's where civilization started, right? Also, I used to have an English pen pal years ago--a sweet girl from the country. I just respect and admire the English culture--and the people. I think I will make it a point to go this year finally. Oh and, Star, do you have your Irish or Scottish family emblem? Take care,
Sloane :-)

Hi!
I wish I knew...my parents divorced when I was a wee babe...
Love my (step)Dad...but, wish I knew more of me own heritage!! LOL
I had an English penpal also...his name was Glenn Rogers...we were both 12...he was really cute too!
He thought he would join...what was it called...oh, yes, "the merchant's navy"...I was amazed that at the age of 12, he was planning his future...
I know I wasn't!
I, too, shall go there someday!
Yes, the town I grew up in was absurdly small...but, I have learned to accept that as being part of who I am...
I did not see a black person in real life until I was 16...
I used to joke that I grew up in a closet...but, then, there were those who "came out of the closet"...so, that joke ended!!
Take Care!

PS, your last post was very amusing!!
Why not, at a place where you have an interest. Perhaps the library, theatre, or whatever, you get the point. I always start out with meeting someone for just a drink. That way if they are not what I am looking for, I won't have to suffer through a long drawn out date. One drink and your gone...
Wow..I can't really imagine being married or being a widow..I am 24 and I hope that things work out for you...my parent own a golf course.....there are usually tournaments that may enable you to get into a group of golfer that could perhaps be either fun or maybe you couls meet somebody there..although I could see alot of married men golfing although you never know...golf requires patience and that is a good trait in a mate...golf also aquires a nice tan...hehhee...are you retired?or do you work?
