"Reality is the actual (physical universe) that we exist in. The universe is the way it is (regardless) of how we personally perceive it to be. (i'll include scientists here too, because there are some theories in physics that are not fully consistent, but go off on tangents of their own/kind of like a cancer in the body.) Thus, is there (more) than our 5 senses? A truth is a truth, it doesn't require that you believe it is true to be so.

Perception, however, is how we as individuals, translate that reality into information that we can use in order to (relate) to the external world. In other words, we all have our own personal version of reality that we carry around in our heads, and are totally unable to relate to any other persons version of reality, or them to ours. But it doesn't change reality."

So, we can never know exactly what anyone else in the world is feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling or tasting. We are, each of us, in our perception of the world, both unique and totally alone.

*What does reality and or perception really mean to you? And how does our (human based) reality fit or merge into the bigger realm and (autonomous) reality of the (Universe)?

Is there more out there, that we could never fully comprehend, as humans? [Not to mention the 'curve-ball' of space & time, itself.] Exactly how far can we reach and understand, or do we have to even try? Will we be forced to, at some point? (survival)

Is our own (human based reality) our own planet 'Earth' enough?

"Yes, there is much more out there that we couldnt even begin to fathom, which I believe is due to our limited brain usage."

i so agree. And i've often wondered, if humans do only use say 10-20% of their brain power, then why so much unused potential/reserve? Or just like you said, we may have to use our brains alot more to survive at some critical point. Progression and evolution of the fittest for perhaps a very different kind of reality..

That's actually a myth. Humans actually use 100% of their brain. That's why each part of the brain has cool names like medula oblongata and stuff. Also the frontal lobes and stuff. There's also a neat spot in your brain that releases endorphins and stuff. But in actuality the entire brain is used for proper motor function of the body and the rest is used for regulating emotions, processing information and learning. If humans only used 10-20% of their brain then most of the human race would be in a comatose state. Of course there still isn't a complete understanding of the human brain yet. It's fascinating what you can learn after suffering a few concussions.

"if we were to use 100% of our brain it would over heat and we could'nt handle all the electricity running through our brain."

hmm, now this gets me to thinking, what capacity of brainage power do aliens use, and wouldn't they be stunned if we upped our brainage power! See right now, they're keeping an eye on us lil people down here, for what reasons i'm not sure.

So maybe our reality is really their reality, we just don't know it yet! 😛

Brain usage is only 10% , at one given time.

It's not myth, rather, a mis-understanding.

In brain scans there are no "dark" areas, which is indicitive of inactivity, such as in stroke victims, or brain damage. This means that all areas of the brain are active and functioning in healthy brains.

The mis-understanding is that we don't USE every part at once. Just like we don't use every appendage, or muscles in our bodies at once, all the time. Our legs can be perfectly still, while our eyes are moving, for example. It would be a correct assessment to say that if we used our whole 100% at one time, we would go into overload, such as we would probably have Congestive Heart Failure, for the blood it produces wouldn't have the ability to circulate as fast as it pumped, if we moved every part of our bodies at all times, which in turn would cause the death of a chamber (Myocardial Infarction).

People can increase the brain activity in certain sectors (called Hemispheres) with prolonged usage. Often it's referred to as a "muscle", when in reality, it's more like arteries (carries blood/oxygen) in how we can become smarter, more active in these areas .. like for instance, if a Diabetic looses blood flow to their feet, then by continueing to walk, their arteries will naturally bypass the blockage and find other routes in which to provide blood flow. The brain works much the same way .. if there's a problem that the brain can't figure out, new neuro-pathways using different routes will be connected (neuronal cell bodies of gray matter will group together as white matter) .. the more it fires on certain sectors (accessing the neuro-nodes), the stronger the connection is, for there's more electrodes running into the pathways.

Or, something like that .. in any event .. we DO use 100% of our brains, just only an average of 10% at a time. When in deep concentration, while new neuro-pathways are drilling .. we use on average 2% more .. then once we're back to our normal brain activity (meaning, not focusing) we're back to our average of 10% .

"So, we can never know exactly what anyone else in the world is feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling or tasting. We are, each of us, in our perception of the world, both unique and totally alone."

So true .. we can say that we relate to the other person, but, this is only so as we interpret this situation based on how we would experience it and the impression it left. So, in reality (our own) .. we don't really understand where another person is coming from, from their perspective.

This would clarify why every person in the world cannot fulfill the very thing they long for the most = to be understood.

Very thought provoking topic 🙂

wow, P-Angel ..hey, no problem! i never quite looked at it that way. This is really quite interesting, because in reality, to use only use 10% of our brain potential - we wouldn't be too far from the cave-men..LOL* So it really never made much sense. But to use what we only need at any given moment, does make alot more sense. The brain and body do work together. Thanks alot for your interesting feedback, P-Angel!

btw, i haven't read it all; but i have this fascinating book called: *Double Your Brain Power* by Jean Marie Stine - 'increase your memory by using all of your brain all of the time.' ..It explains the functions/processes of the brain. There's certain brain-power excercises in the book, as well. Maybe at some point, i'll post a few statistics/etc or something. =)
