What is the shape of the universe? I think it is shaped like a 3D trampoline. I'm not talking science- though if you want you can justify it that way. I can't possibly imagine the universe as infinite, nor can I concieve of an expanding universe- what is it expanding into? Also... if there was a Big Bang (as science seems to prove)... what happened before the big bang? When did time start? I understand the basics of the idea of space and time being the same.... but why is it?
Actually... I think it's likely that the universe is much much bigger than we imagine. We first believed that the earth was the universe, then that the solar system was. Next we believed that our galaxy was the whole universe and now that the universe is made up of billions of galaxies...follow this line of logic and i think that what we call our universe is one of billions.
The shape? Well i dont know..maybe it is a trampoline but since we can fall for god knows how many years, up, side ways, maybe it can be square? or maybe it is a trampoline just that our universe is thick? And if this whole universe was made to be and this universe gave life such as us then there must've been some sort of 'life' also before it, or not. Who knows..lol whats outside out this whole universe? Maybe its just clear white never ending place? OR maybe somethings watching over everything? OR maybe this universe is just ONE thing and then theres another from this one place where theres different things that lead to different worlds. Like for example, lets say "DOORS" Theres just one "room" where theres several "doors" around us, and you choose which "universe" or "world" we'd like to enter. I dont know exactly but my imagination is getting to me again, you're probably thinking im idiotic ^^ but wutever--Okay i'm doing my hw right now at this very second, but what if i was to go water the hose or go for a job, will my day be different? Or will it just all come down to the basic same thing in the end? Or what if there really isnt very much interesting/reasons/meanings behind anything, maybe the world is just to be. Maybe we think there is..because we think our life/world has some importance? But i dont think thats the case, just random thoughts that'll probably change in a minute or days..
I always thought of the Universe like a giant blob of jelly floating in a void, ever expanding. I think that the Universe is probably grape jelly with lots of sparkles in it. (I'm really not crazy, really.)
Luz, I think I understand what you mean, and I agree. How many different Universes are there? How many gateways to other worlds? I read somewhere that "You can go anywhere if you know the road", and I wonder if there are roads to places "Elsewhere"... I wonder if we exist only in this Universe, or in multiple universes at once. I wonder in how many dimentions all the different choices we make are being played out like multiple endings to movies. Interesting thoughts for a cloudy day...
Luz if that's for me.... i wish it wasn't... but anyway here goes
One of the theories for the shape of the universe is that of a donut, space curves at the edges and in the middle of the universe and as you travel straight you actually are traveling along the curve and therefore the universe is infinite since you can keep on going for all eternity without hitting an end.
The other theory, the trampoline one, actually is used to explain Einstein's theory/law of gravity which shows how space curces with gravity. Example (you probably don't want this but here it is) if you take a bowling ball and roll it across the trampoline, it doesn;t go straaight, it curves. The universe isn't flat like a trampoline (at least I don't think it is) so it would have to be a 3D trampoline. Get what I mean?
As to what the universe actually is as opposed to its shape the only answer I can give is that the universe is everything that exists based upon the decisions we make. Different decisions create different universes, no matter how insignificant the difference.
i get what you mean but since we dont know for sure what the universe is then i dont see how we can actually claim a definition for it other than the fact that its something out there, but we can always wonder and make out of what it could be.. ^^ i'm like..really curious so its nice to talk to you guys about these kinda things since its real hard to talk to anyone bout this or even my family.
but the donut, what if you can just go through the "curved" edge thing? Cant you do that? I mean i just stick a fork into a donut. Or is that not how space works? lol
LoL... fork and donut... I never thought about htat before... as to the universe definition, it is everything and anything you want it to be... I prefer the more scientific route but I'm sure morgan follows the path of insanity and your's is the road of doubt. I know I don't make any sense- I'm just trying to confuse you so that you don't ask any more questions that I have no answer to : )
The question you want answered is "what's outside of the universe?" and that's impossible to answer because 1) the universe by it's definition is everything and 2) I am too humble as to try to guess the answer to a question that cannot be answered in this lifetime if ever. The universe isn't just what's out there, it's what's in here and everywhere. It's like asking "what's infinity feel like?" but then again... that's the point of metaphysics. Did I ramble enough for you? Hopefully Morgan can give you a better explanation of the universe-we think alike but explain everything differently.
I think the universe is infinite, but I can't really wrap my mind around it at all. Which is why it's fascinating. As far as it's shape...hmmm....that might be totally unanswerable if you think of it in terms of truly being *everything*, I suppose it can't really have a shape if it goes on and on forever.
Expand your mind to infinite levels and perhaps you may try to grasp the meaning of forever... And what does forever mean? Eternity in the blink of an eye. Your dreams build your world.
To see a world in a grain of sand, And heaven in a flower; Hold infinity in your hand, And Eternity in an hour.
I dunno...the universe...shape...I'm not a math-science person at all and this is sounding all too much like Geometry, which was really about as definite to me as a migraine. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say all the head scientists were completely wrong. There's definitely not just one definitive universe, there are actually quite a few. Here's a universe, mentioned in another post:
"You can't always get what you want, You can't always get what you want; But if you try sometime You might find, you get what you need."
You want a multiverse? Go to your nearest music store and purchase 40 Licks, or well, pretty much anything there! =)
As far as wrapping my mind around something, it's only 1400 cc's (cubic centimeters) and I'm not up for unravelling it!
Did anybody every read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy? If you haven't, and you're interested in metaphysics, I strongly recomend it. It's one of the best modern phylosophy series around. (and the most hilarious)
I love the word "vengeance". It stirs up some powerful images of women getting even with foolish men or connivng women. It brings out the truly creative and inspiring thoughts that are needed for the act of vengeance. It gives one a chance to let the e
I guess the magazine called the Edge is sponsoring the Life Expo in Minneapolis...so it is an Edge Life Expo and not a Whole Life Expo. Doreen Virtue will be there!

Or maybe not. I never claimed to know.
