i'm planning to move into a townhouse RIGHT next to my sisters(shes married too!) later on and i know exactly what you're thinking, i think i'd first save up money right now and then when the time comes, see what can happen and still "have" that job ofcourse..or get a better job. I'd start out real small in the furnitures, dont go on a furni spree now! haha..... but this excites me nonetheless, because its a new life and new experiences..

Thanks guys! Money really isn't the issue. I just wanted to know your opinion cause my man thinks you should never buy new stuff starting out. I am a late bloomer. I am 25 years old, so I have a full time job and make almost $ 2000 a month. I am going to buy things in sections for now. My big purchase is a sofa for $ 496. One piece at a time. I have everything else you could imagine. For other rooms that is. I even got a sleigh bed for $ 400 which is great. I will have to learn to save for a rainy day cause anything could happen.

My apartment is $ 460 a month and 759 sq ft.

when I move into my first apartment, I'm shopping around at all the thrift and salvation army stores for all the tables and bookshelves-you can get really good ones really cheap. But if money's not an option, I just suggest that don't buy anything too big- my cousin had just bought a beautiful new couch for her apartment and if fit fine but when she moved, we had to unhinge the door in order to fit it through the doorway.

Oh but definitely, if you buy stuff, make sure they are near new-there's nothing worse that moldy rotting furniture.

I would get cheap stuff for now...check out garage sales and good will, etc...
Yes, paint can fix stuff up and can be really fun to do something interesting with, such as stenciling...
I have some pieces I am very fond of!
I use wire bakers racks for houseplants...(they were cheaper than plant shelves!)
Shop around...
Have fun with your creativity!

Unless you plan on staying there, I wouldn't get new...(except for some items...I agree with James!) Moving furniture is hard on it...it gets scratches and dings...expensive isn't worth it until you know you are not going to be moving it except to clean underneath of it!
