Hypocrites

I can understand why youngins & newcomers to the church are starting not to believe in or stray from Christianity

Don't get it twisted, I AM a Christian & my faith is unshakeable

BUT I can understand why some are starting to doubt the church period

We 1st learn about God/church from our families.

And if the people in your family are not even practicing or being the example of what it means to be a Christian, it's almost ignorant to expect a child to be somehow "excited" about joining a church/faith that no one else in their life seems to take seriously.

Granted, I don't believe you should let hypocrites interfere with your OWN relationship b/w you & God. Just b/c others are hypocrites doesn't mean that you have to be one. Doesn't mean that the religion itself is shaky or worth doubting.

1 of my best friends is agnostic. At 1st this used to bother me but now I can see why she is.

Her dad was a baptist preacher, & while in the poolpit, cheated on his mom, treated his family badly & actually mingled with other preachers who did the same behind closed doors.

She also noticed how the # of hypocrite Christians completely outnumbered the # of true Christians

Her seeing all of this at a young age really scarred her beliefs about Christianity.

I wish this wasn't the case, but I don't blaim her

The same way I wouldn't blaim a young woman for growing up fearful of men if she'd been abused by lots of men in her young life

The same way I wouldn't blaim a young man for treating women like trash IF all the major male influences in his life have done that in front of him

The same way I wouldn't blaim a child for growing up with anger problems if violence/anger is all he was raised around

Older folks always look down on the young folks who aren't in church as much anymore, BUT I wish they would take some of the responsibility for that

And then when young folks with "lost souls" get into church, they immediately notice how judgemental their elders are & this scares them away 1. B/c those same elders told them the bible says NOT to judge & 2. They thought church was a place of acceptance, not a fashion show or place for hypocrites to divide the church by the holy vs. unholy

Would you sign up for a job if while driving up to the interview, you noticed 5 people running out yelling "SCAM!?" I'm sure you wouldn't.

Point is: Christianity is not something a child naturally grows into. It's something we learn from someone, usually our parents.

And if the parents aren't doing a good job of practicing AND being the example of what it means to be a good Christian, how can we expect for the children of these parents to grow up being better Chistians?

They won't! They'll be the same kind of Christian their parents are (hypocrites) OR NOT be Christians at all (which seems to be the case).

They're like screw it, I'd rather not be a Christian at all than fake the funk, be a hypocrite or entertain a congregation of hypocrites.

And since hypocrites are everywhere & in every church, it's not like you can tell a child to suck it up & just go to another better church

Everywhere they look around there are people who say 1 thing & yet do another. Our younger generation is not dumb. If they see that you're not even practicing what you preach, they'll want no part in it.

It sucks though b/c Christianity has alot of devoted Christians, but in today's society it's actually hard to find some of them, therefore these children are suffering & missing out, all the while their elders who were the MAIN reason behind them straying, sit back all stuck up wondering CLUELESSLY why they have such problems getting youth to come to church AND actually stay in church

sure it can. after all, there are a lot of contradictions to dissect.

And does it not teach to be accepting and loving of all. You know, I was raised Pentecostal, take that for what it's worth..and as time wore on it just seemed that those spewing it the loudest were those that practiced it the least. The more you read and learn the more you see that all faiths hinge on very distinct and similar principles. Therefore none and all of them are right, unique in their own way. And yes, that includes ALL of them. Wicca, Shamanism, Paganism, Christianity, Buddhism, Muslim, etc. They all teach us quite a lot of the same values. For myself, I believe that whatever higher being is out and about knows exactly where I am. I needn't ascribe to 4 walls and a pulpit, and that works just fine for me. I feel closer in the out of doors in any event.
In my viewpoint intolerance, loathing, condemnation and other is NOT the teachings of any being whose sole purpose is but to love us and take us under their care. If someone tells me otherwise I'll call them a straight up fool and bean them with a book. Look it up, SHOW ME where it says that. Betcha can't.

LOL And why not believe in a higher power if it gives you comfort or a foundation to grab hold of when life spins out of control?
But what I am saying is just that. People take something like the Bible and twist it to their own mind set. That is not what is written ( and even there again, it's an interpretation. It does not line up with the original scrolls very well. ) It's filtered through. Gleaned over for perceived loopholes.
Take for instance Mormonism. Do I really BELIEVE that some buffoon peered into his hat at rocks and came up with the brainstorm that it was alright to have 4-6 wives? Do I really believe that the very hand of God slapped him upside the head and said "Oh yes, we're all from space, it's our duty to procreate and bring these souls from the very embrace of heaven..and here's enough showboatmanship and mysticism to rival calling the four corners." You know..the same religion the other would grab a torch and pitchfork for. Nah! Said buffoon was thinking with his pecker and twisting things to suit himself. AND HOCUS POCUS ALAKAZAM! We have a RELIGION!
Like any other thing ( and honestly it's about as fruitful as making it your lifes work to pick fly shit out of black pepper ) you have to be a good soul and do your best, what sets right with you as a person. Whether that involves incense and abalone or a cross and a censer. It matters little. Just do right.

That's the thing though krys, I don't think you foolish for your beliefs at all. I simply have a problem with those that ostracize, refute and look down on different ones. They all at base level teach us to love, don't be a dink, be kind, be fair, etc. I would never stand there and say your belief structure isn't right. It's right for you, it's your faith.
Even science let's say. I know that light refraction and water make a rainbow, but it doesn't lessen the magic of seeing it nor does it squash that feeling of wonder and joy. Something much bigger at work than I can ever wrap my head around.
