here goes: i work at this good company and it's all women in my dept. Well we have instant messenger on our computers
I came in late today due to traffic today. The rules are you get 2 points everytime you're late. I have 10. You can get up to 24 a year. So i feel ok about it. I will be early from now on. Anyway, i walk into work and i say traffic is slow. Two girl i can't stand say it wasn't slow for me because they go the same route i do. i am very pissed and irritated by now because noone asked them. Anway back to the messenger. One of them accidently messages me and says "she's going to get fired". i am like who? She says oh sorry wrong person. I am flamin! I ask her if she's talking about me and she says no! Yeah right! And the she says " how many points do you have"? Oh yeah but she wasn't talking about me right? To me that 's was funny that she got caught and i thought it was unprofessional. This cookiemonster has used racial slurs and everything around me and have not gotten in trouble. i saved the messenge and i am thinking of turning it in. My boyfriend thinks that i shouldn't turn it in to keep peace but then again this whore will keep bothering me with racial slurs. I would like to know should i turn it in? Right now i want her to get it. Sorry if that' evil but she had no right! I need opinions ladies. Thanks!

Hmmm...she sounds like a real winner. Twinkee, I have to be honest though about my opinion here...I would not save or show the instant message, because I don't believe it would really hold a lot of water with your superiors, in the end. What I DO believe (or would hope) WOULD hold (major) water is the racial stuff. That's unnaceptable; in fact, that is harassment. It doesn't matter how underhanded and sneaky people are about it so it doesn't *look* intentional: if you feel it, if it feels like a punch in the gut--IT IS ONE. React accordingly and go to your boss with that part of things.

Good luck, I sincerely hope this crap stops.

Definetely agree with the above. Don't lower yourself to their level of gossip. As for the racial slurs...absolutely act on them. Inform your supervisors and see what happens. IF that doesn't work (and my hubby is Cree Indian and has experienced the same at his work) then have a tape recorder handy, record what they say then go to the supervisors again...they would have to act on that or they themselves can be liable for damages.

good point.
tape recorders.
get tapes of what is said in a meeting that day that's been recorded by the secetary or someone. And have it u know right after so that's one way u can prove it to be that date.
and good luck. Racial slurs are wrong. and don't mention the messenger. she may mention so maybe delte the program. but does ur boss let u have it. if so then it's fine.

ahh. i don't know. but a good point.
bring in cookies or something. u know for no reason i mean true utter radom. Act really friendly too her. keep friends close but enimes closer. kill her with kindness for when she does. other people may notice. make ur self more social in the enviorment so more people are near u to be able to hear such things when they are said.

I know you are angry but revenge isn't the way. And it isn't a good idea to spike something anyone digests as this is a criminal act and apart from being dismissed, you could also be charged and end up having a permanent record. What Sweet P said...documenting incidences is a definite do do. Tape recordings are not permissable in court as evidence but may help 'prove' your case to your supervisors enough for them to act.
