I'm looking for ways to get my feet wet in the investing game. I'm not looking for equity or liquid "worth" like real estate, but monthly cash flow. I have some ideas for a multi-family home venture I'll be looking into in the future but outside of that, I'm not sure where to turn. It will take awhile before I can get this multi-family home plan in motion but I don't want to waste that much time waiting when I could be acquiring assets. Outside of selling products I can generate myself like books and various products, I'm stumped as to where to turn.
In short: -What are some options for investing(monthly cash flow) that have minimal moving pieces? -Are there any solid investing courses I can take? -Any tips involving land lordship?
There are a ton of sites, but for general investing info. Check out www.fool.com. The site is called Motley Fool. He addresses a lot of different investment avenues regardless of how much you have. Plus, there is a good community on his site where you can ask questions. I currently have sharebuilder to do all of my stock investments, and John Hancock for my mutual funds.
I'm leery of some of the advice they gave insofar as diversifying. It seems like common sense but is it really? For one, pretty much everyone knows to diversify, but how many people see any substantial gains? Why do what everyone else is doing if it's not working? The other point to diversification is to mitigate risk in stock fluctuations. Is there really such a thing as a safe stock though? I think a stock becomes risky when the investor knows little to nothing about where their money is being spent.
In hindsight, I should have jumped on the Japan bandwagon after the Sendai quake. Stocks fell 25% in value, and rose just a few months later. Japan and Greece share a similarity here but I'm sure Greeces' stocks fell even further and could possibly still be a solid investment. Something to look into I suppose!
