McCain and Obama have something in common

In the interest of fairness I would like to point out that there has also been much debate about whether John McCain's birth certificate is authentic and whether he is a naturalized citizen.

This thread is NOT meant to stir up controversy, just to provide food for thought. His birth origins have been scrutinized just as much as Obama and so far nothing has come of it. Both candidates have given much more service to the United States than a vast majority of Americans who can prove they are a naturalized citizen beyond the shadow of doubt.

Perhaps they are both lying, but does it really matter? They are both Americans in spirit and heart. We all have illegal alien ancestry, unless you are 100% Native American...

RIGHT ON! Softcookie 😄 😄 😄

The same can be said about me with my ancestry 😉 I'd tell someone to go fyck themselves in the ass if they question whether or not I'm American, but then again, thats just me *grins* I too, understand that the whole debate about whether or not someone is Amercan enough doesn't hold any foundation based on how this country was formed 🙂

The laws concerning U.S. citizenship are definitely a grey area, my friend. I am not an expert on the matter, so I would like to refer you to a discussion paper written by
Gabriel J. (Jack) Chin, a law professor at the University of Arizona.

The paper is titled Why Senator John McCain Cannot Be President: Eleven Months and a Hundred Yards Short of Citizenship. It is a long and complicated read, my friend, I hope you can persevere.

I'm not sure if Professor Chin's opinion would hold up in a court of law because he has a very un-American sounding name. It's also strange that his last name is Chin but he looks Mexican. There must be some mixed heritage there, he may not even be a citizen himself.

However, it is an interesting read and illustrates the dilemmas that can arise when laws are interpreted down to the letter. Please post your opinion of the discussion paper, my friend. I greatly value your insight and wait with great anticipation and bated breath.

I suppose it's too much for people to actually read the links I post...

Panama has never been a U.S territory, however there was a Panama Canal Zone that existed until 1979 and was considered U.S. soil. McCain's birth certificate lists that he was born there, but there are eyewitness accounts that he was actually born in the city of Colon, which is approximately one hundred yards outside of that zone.

Nitpicky, I know.

The laws concerning children born abroad to a U.S. citizen are murky and open to interpretation. If the allegations are true, that would indicate that McCain's parents also knew the murkiness of the laws and falsified information to ensure that their son was considered a U.S citizen.

There are also eyewitness accounts that Obama was born in Africa rather than Hawaii. These stories have never been proven, just as they have not in the case of McCain.

My point is that in the event that either of the stories are true it would have been the PARENTS who lied. They were U.S. citizens (only the mother in the case of Obama) who wanted to make sure that their child had the same rights and privileges of citizenship that they enjoy. In either case, it was intended out of love rather than to defraud. I would do the exact same for my child if I were ever in a similar situation.

lol@Softcookie

This is my line, btw: ""The truth of this situation is that there is no truth, everything is debatable. Unless you are irrational and close-minded."" lol Give it back!

""The laws concerning children born abroad to a U.S. citizen are murky and open to interpretation.""

Indeed, except I would apply that to most of US law. When analyzing or composing legal documents, focusing on shades of grey is the rule of thumb.
