I thought i would post this, because i believe so many people (including myself) have confused the definition of love by allowing "selfish" needs interfere with reality. It is this confusion that has brought us to DXPNET looking for answers and to bond with like-minded individuals (i think this is the case anyway). So this is what i found, and so far, this is best explanation i found to date that really resonotes with me. Hopefully it resonates with a few of you ...
WHAT IS LOVE? Are your palms sweaty, is your heart racing, and is your voice caught within your chest? It isn't love, it's LIKE.
You can't keep your eyes off of them, am I right? It isn't love, it's LUST.
Are you proud, and eager to show them off? It isn't love. It's LUCK.
Do you want them because you know they're there? It isn't love, it's LONELINESS.
Are you there because it's what everyone wants? It isn't love, it's LOYALTY.
Do you stay for their confessions of love, because you don't want to hurt them? It isn't love, it's PITY.
Do you belong to them because their sight makes your heart skip a beat? It isn't love, it's INFATUATION.
Are you there because they kissed you, or held your hand? It isn't love, it's FRIENDSHIP.
Do you tell them everyday they are the only one you think of? It isn't love, it's a LIE.
Are you willing to give up all of your favorite things for their sake? It isn't love, it's CHARITY.
However, do you stay because a blinding, incomprehensible mix of pain and elation pulls you close and holds you? Does your heart ache and break when they're sad? Do you cry for their pain, even when they're strong? Do you accept their faults because they are part of who they are? Do their eyes see your true heart, and touch your soul so deeply it hurts? Would you give them your heart, your soul, your life?
I am so glad you can appreciate this post as much as i did. It seems to me, you and i are possibly on the same type of journey.
As for the "contradiction" you pointed out, i think what this is saying is ... The Question of "Are you willing to give up all of your favorite things for their sake?" ... well, i think this is referring to Material things and/or physical things in life ... like your home, your family pet, etc.
And the Question "Would you give them your heart, your soul, your life?" ... this is referring to something so much more profound ... your heart and your soul ... only you have ever known this... this is a part of you that you can hide from the rest of the world ... where all your vulnerabilities lay ... when you are willing to give this part of yourself to someone else without hesitation and whole heartedly... "Then it's LOVE..."
Love is experienced on various levels and yes it there are dimensions of love - and people confuse the emotions they are feeling sometimes, thinking it is "true Love" (should true love really exist) and that is what this post is all about. To help people define the love they think they have.
I agree with you there sherob, and a perfect example of this for those that may not understand this concept is a situation from my past:
My ex would tell me that he loved me, but a couple of days later when we would be fighting, he would say that he "meant it at the time I said it" - therefore he feels love in a more "in the moment" style .
Whereas I do not experience it this way, i'm a slow giver of self but when I love someone, it is a feeling that lingers no matter what, no matter how angry they have made me, none of that - it is a lasting feeling deep within me that nothing can shake (besides deception). I don't really experience the "in the moment" style of love like he did / does.
You know ive been struggling for weeks to define my relationship, its bittersweetness but essentially its amazingness and its everything other than the physical. Againt my will it's love (and i say that because it means i really am going forward and it scares me).
these are the different dimensions of love. Love can come in different forms and you laid them out clearly. But I identify with the last one...its "incomprehensible". That is true for me.
But I have loved in the other dimensions. Doesn't make them any better, but gives you a palette of experience to bring to your love.
"However, do you stay because a blinding, incomprehensible mix of pain and elation pulls you close and holds you? Does your heart ache and break when they're sad? Do you cry for their pain, even when they're strong? Do you accept their faults because they are part of who they are? Do their eyes see your true heart, and touch your soul so deeply it hurts? Would you give them your heart, your soul, your life?"
This is Love in my mind, because with Love there should be no Conditions ... True Love is unconditional and the words above are felt without reservation ... its just the way it is ... or at the very least, the way it should be.
Some of you asked where i found this from and to be honest ... i can't remember. But i have saved this and refer to it from time-to-time.
