I think the soldiers fighting in the war are heros. They are fighting for a cause. They are fighting for their country and for all the citizens in it.

I think the parents of the soldiers are also heros. They have given their children to their country. I was thinking about this on the 4th. I watched grieving mothers walk through the memorials for dead soldiers. They no longer have their babies. Their babies died for a cause greater than themselves. I couldnt' imagine giving my son to war. Thinking about raising him to be a decent responsible citizen then watching him go off to fight for our country. I would be proud. But I don't think I could do it. I'm not that heroic.

I was in New Orleans in April 2005. My b/f and I stayed a week. We met a bartender where we were staying. She talked about the city, what we should do, see, eat....then she talked about herself. We talked about our life at home. She was a cool person. We exchanged #'s and talked once or twice.

After Hurricane Katrina we called her. She and her family had evacuated to a small town in Texas. They were going to go to Houston to look for jobs. I told her the job market would be flooded and she agreed but said she had no other choice. So we called her back and told her we had a plane ticket in her name and she was coming to stay in Vegas until she got on her feet again.

We moved our son into our room for a few months and she stayed in his room. We helped her emotionally. We helped her with FEMA, Red Cross, getting a job. Needless to say, she has been here for about 10 months now. She has a wonderful fiance. They have a pretty house and she is helping him raise his children. She is doing wonderful! And she is my best friend to boot!

She tells me all the time that I am her hero.

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There?s someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It?s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'till the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight

Sorry, I had to do it even on my own thread.
