I'm Starting Not to Believe In Astrology

O.K., I know I have been on here a lot making statements about certain zodiac signs due to my past experiences, but now I am starting not to believe in this whole astrology thing after all. I recently purchased a book for Scorpios by a certain astrologer for the year 2010. It is supposed to give you an accurate description of what you should look forward to each day of the year and what "lucky colors" you should wear for the day. Needless to say, NONE of the stuff that was supposed to happen to me has come true. The "lucky colors" i was supposed to wear didnot do anything for me. To make a long story short I am starting to believe that astrology and zodiac signs are only slightly accurate and should not be taken as gospel. Some people(like me) have been putting way too much emphasises on it. I am now looking at astrology as just entertainment and nothing else.

I've had my charts done by different "astrologers" and they all had different results. I don't think ANYONE should go by astrology as the controller of their lives. My Gemini stepmother always go by astrology. She's really into it. She picks up these astrology books and reads her horoscopes in the papers and magazines. Needless to say, most of the stuff she reads also does not come true for her, but she's still into astrology. Someone once told me, Smart people donot go by astrology. I'm starting to believe them.

Well Cinnamon Girl, no one ever told you that you HAD to believe in astrology. I can tell you now that a lot of us here don't look to it to dictate our daily lives. I think horoscopes, predictions, and things like that are complete bull. What I'm interested in is how emotions, personality, appearance, and life style relate to one's sign. I like drawing the dots, making connections, and finding out more about the zodiac in how they relate to the person rather than his or her future/expectations. I never read horoscopes unless I'm doing it for fun. I know who I am, and I always have. It's a hobby and a fascination with someone that is ages old and is still somewhat accurate. I knew who I was before, I know myself now, and I will continue to. Follow horoscopes or letting the zodiac dictate your life can only lead to self-fulfilling prophecies. Now, you don't have to tell us to stop following the zodiac or tell us that you think it's silly, what we choose is what we choose. You were interested in it of your own volition and decided that it wasn't worth it. -shrug- good for you. I hope everything works out for you now and that you prosper in life.

who made the stars cin?

no offense but id believe astrology b4 religion if this is what u speak of....

Why would anyone let their zodiac sign determine who they are? I'm a Scorpio, so that means I'm supposed to be obsessed with wild, freaky sex. I'm supposed to be dark and dangerous. I'm supposed to be revengeful and violent. I am not like that at all. I also have a Leo moon, so I'm supposed to be loud, and outgoing and the center of attention. None of that is true. I have been reading about astrology indifferent bookls and websites and it tends to be greatly exaggerated. One book says that Aries has the worst temper while another says that Aries barks are bigger than thier bites. The daily horoscopes in the newspaper cannot possibly apply to everyone under the same birth sign. Everyone with the same zdoiac sign cannot possibly have the same personality. People should take astrologer with a grain of salt and never let it rule their lives.

I'm not telling anyone to stop believing in horoscopes but some of it is greatly exaggerated and untrue. People can believe in it all they want to, but some people take it too seriously. After reading Sydney lamarr's book, I am greatly disappointed. Even Linda Goodman has been inaccurate when describing Scorpios. She says every Scorpio woman wish that they were men. Excuse me, but I've never wished that I were a man.She says that Scorpio women need sex for survival and have whips and chains in their bedrooms. They're the female Mata Hari. Just ridiculous stereotypical junk.

The people who take it too seriously will regardless of what you say to them. If it's what they want to believe, they will go with it. Most of us are aware of how inaccurate things can be; we take it with a grain of salt and discuss the differences in what books/sites say with our own experiences. We KNOW we aren't all alike, and that's the fun of it. The thing is, you were disenchanted by things that not everyone really believes in/looks into. You know who you are, and you should have always known. It doesn't make astrology wrong. Like everything, it applies to a person as much as that person allows. If you believe it's wrong, it will be wrong. If someone else believes it's right, it will be right.

And I'm a psych major, so I'm all about going into debates about nature v nurture, which aren't even related to astrology. If you really want to give astrology a shot, then don't rely on the shit that is supposed to grab the public. Go for someone or something that is really versed in this, or talk to other people. I get most of my information and insight through conversations and personal experiences.

I sincerely commend you for your honesty; for it seems to take a lot of self-courage for you to not only attend to, but also publicly address, your qualms about astrology. Indeed, you seem to have even gotten the metaphysical principle correct that informs modern-day astrology, seeming to ultimately realize how 'astrology,' like unto all other natural or natural languages, is true (only) according to its consistent definitions: that is, it's ultimately a linguistic game.

Indeed, true descriptions describe reality but reality 'makes' true descriptions true. I'm just surprised that you have NOT been condemned to death yet for such daring public 'chutzpah,' as your detractors may call it.

Lol, and why would she be condemned? None of us here are so versed in this that we have any right to say this is all true and she is wrong. She's completely fair and right to voice her thoughts, especially when mentioning that one should't rely on astrology solely when trying to understand him or herself.

I agree. But to some folk, any voice that contradicts modern-day astrology is liken unto a heretic, in the days of Nicolaus Copernicus, who refuses to accept the notion that our sun does not orbit the earth.

ewashington, you seem very smart-n-all..

Dot Dot Dot.

But there's something I've been wondering...

Why do you talk like a Franciscan Monk?

When we return from our missions, we don't have much down time; so, to maximize my time, I tend to type as I think, somewhat like a logical proof. Since my thoughts tend to flow like a sine curve or a lunar tide, I just paint whatever I think via typing... It's easier this way, as time is seriously of the essence for me.

ewashington, to me, is like this psychology student who signed up for one of the required courses for philosophy majors

it was obvious that it was the first philosophy course she had taken, and every time she participated in a PHILOSOPHICAL discussion, she responded with nothing but *psychological* theories and concepts

one time she mentioned the oedipus complex, and the philosophy students looked at her like she was crazy. NOT because they had never heard of the complex, but because they honestly thought she sounded crazy using it as a basis for her argument...

she then proudly and condescendingly said to us: "HA! That would be a concept put forth my Sigmund Freud, ever heard of him!?"

:/

Speaking of psychology, you do recall the principle of reaction-formation right? Also, PHILOSOPHICALLY, hasn't gemtaur already dealt with you accordingly, in addition to even confirming the validity and soundness of my argument?

Btw, most of Sigmund Freud's work is anecdotal psycho-babble, with the exceptions* of a few.

OP
I recently purchased a book for Scorpios by a certain astrologer for the year 2010.

ME
If it does not say "Linda Goodman" it probably does not hit Scorpios well.
Not even a Scorpio would reveal what she did.

OP
The "lucky colors" i was supposed to wear did not do anything for me.

ME
If you want to attract Scorpios - simple, conservative, classy & black
of course, opposites attract, so if you want to do Taurus
wear light blue denim that says LEVIS
Leos like the reds and yellows - any color the sun could be

It just means cinnamon girl that you are not able to understand more until you feel out who you are and understand your relationship to the world around you. And also astrology isn't just about your Sun sign. If that was the case, my Sun sign would have me doing things my moon sign mellows out, etc.

As you LEARN and understand yourself and astrology as it is, you begin to be versed in what it can say rather than pick up generalizations that fit many people so that you can sell a book or get someone to go to your site.

I am learning all this in depth this year and find it fascinating and so much to learn and have noticed crappy 2 minute videos that stereotype etc. but there is more information for you to find a better understanding, especially beyond some book excluding what you can learn about all the other aspects.

There are plenty of good resources about learning about Ascendant, Moon Sign, conjunctions etc. and its possible to have a Aries Sun like I have with so much other things in their chart that you notice where other aspects of your astrology reading shows a truer outlook like how you love others etc.

Whether its all true, or whether anything is true is for you to decide of course but right now, as I learn about astrology I am thankful for all those who have kept the study alive as its so interesting.

How I wish everyone could be more positive and interesting, but alas we are diverse and beautiful the way we all are.

Guys, Astrology is a load of nonsense. You can't expect to be guide by such nonsense on a day by day basis. The only thing that has value is noting in which month you were born and the sign you are. I can't speak regarding every sign but as a Scorpio, let me tell you, that I am exactly what you have read, without the bad stuff. Why no bad stuff? I worked on it for years until I eliminated those things. Was not easy to do but I did it.

So, skip buying books that tell you how June 7th is going to be or what colors you should wear. Not going to help.

@ Aliennation I'm starting to feel the same thing as you. I'm not taking astrology as seriously as what I did last year. Around October or November of last year I studied LOA (Law of attractions), so I ended up getting more interested in that and started to lose some of my attention on astrology.

When it comes to astrology somehow I do love reading those astrology blogs like Mystic Medusa and The Astrology Place.

shucks, i never did believe in this garbage from day one. i've purchased a gemini book 2 years ago and nothing in that book describe me at all. talkin bout a waste of money. however when i read the part about gemini with scorpio rising, eveything fit. so i kinda wanna believe i'm a scorpio sun. cuz everything they say about scorpio fit me to a tee. from the way scorpio's look and even by the way they walk, sensual and slow. so that's why i don't wanna believe in this stuff.

Thats the thing though is that those horoscopes and that Gemini predictions book that you bought is mainly focusing on your sun sign, when theres a lot more behind it.

Stuff the predictions, future recommendations, etc whatever! I don't take note of the predictions nor the horoscope side of it. All I'm interested in is the effects a birthchart has on ones personality, appearance, behaviour, etc.

Thats what interest me about The Astrology Place, because out of all the sites I looked at the author explains those planetary aspects really well. In the birth chart it seems to be the planetary aspects that catch my attention, than the planet in the zodiac. Don't know why. Though I do have an interest for ascendants because of the appearance side of it.

I agree with you.... Astrology is like a new age religion.. Some people dont understand where the info came from... but certain religions people believe in things they arent sure is true as well.. Things they have never actually witnessed... I like to say i'm agnostic.. I'm not gonna live my life by astrology but its fun to look at and find similarities in the personality traits and things but i'm not gonna live my life by a religion when there is 0 proof that is real neither.
