You know a person is abusing alcohol when life at work and at home are seriously disrupted. It's a chronic disease that hits younger adults more prevalently than older ones.

Trading the baby bottle for the liquor bottle, which is nothing more than a baby bottle for grown-ups.
According to Psychology Today, the risk factors for alcoholism is said to be both genetic and environmental.
(see link below)

It should be pointed out that while people may be "at risk" for developing alcoholism, not everyone actually
develops alcoholism, though they were clearly predisposed to the risk factors.
Oddly, those alcoholics, who were not predisposed to the risk factors of the disease, voluntarily became
alcoholics when they began to drink. Voluntary alcoholics may be among young adolescents or older adults
but for whatever reason, for them, the results can be the same as they would be for those who fall under "at risk"
category, noted above. Whereas, the bottle may have been a novelty, if allowed to take control, the same can
become a crutch, security blanket, and thus a baby bottle of another kind. That is, the bottle becomes the
means to the addict's end. The root problem lies in the direction of addiction, not unlike other addictions
such as drugs, sex, rock and roll along with many other habit-forming obsessive compulsive Disorder (OCD) behaviors
that the afflicted draw towards, in their efforts to appease an underlying problem that most people refuse to
admit, to actually exist, and which problem permeates society, placing anyone and everyone at risk.

I used to drink heavily as a teen and in my 20s.....my son has no interest in it or drugs. I asked him why not and he said he has found other ways to channel his feeings (acting, music, dancing, film making, writing etc). I asked him why he thought I used to indulge and he comes back with *you had nowhere to go with your feelings, so you numbed them with substances *. How right he is

Totally agree with the point you made about trading bottles......so true

You have a very smart boy, and you obviously are a good mom.
