"u gotta have patience n determination for it..."

I would have to concur with MM, "I haven't the patience for it..". Which is something that vexes me. I have patience and determination, just apparently not for this. And it chaps my butt... I have lots and lots of patience and determination, damn it! How come I don't have any for this? WTF? And, why the heck is it so damn boring?

"but now its a habit n doesnt bother me...."

I have a hard time developing habits that aren't fun, or will not lead to something fun. 😉

"Self-discipline is a pre-requisite for Yoga "

Self-discipline... I have self-discipline. Sort of... Sometimes... Depends on the day. 😉

Okay, so apparently not cut out for yoga or pilates. Any other suggestions?

"have u tried dancing??
lol
no seriously...its something that...if comming effortlessly...then its one of the best workouts..."

I love dancing... I was kind of hoping for meditative, though. Has anyone tried Taichi? Is it boring?

Kickboxing is fun. I like beating the crap out of things (inanimate things). Helps me vent excess energy and frustration. I was just looking for something a bit deeper, perhaps...

"What is the purpose of YOUR yoga workout—"

Ummm, self-improvement?

To some degree the workout aspect, to some degree the secondary physical skills, to some degree the mental aspect. I don't want to just workout my body, but my entire being (or as close as I can get to it)... Perhaps I should just stick with sex. LOL!

"i wanna beat the crap out of something...."

Amen!!!

"i cant sit still......let alone meditate."

Ditto. Is there no form of meditation that isn't boring?

"and a lady can never be flexible enough!!"

Damn, I love you...

Ok, I seem to be of like mind with my fellow Scorp women. So, martial arts it is... Which ones do you like?

"and i have yet to see an instructor....in real life....that has the kind of body i would be prepared to do THAT for!!"

Because they are spending all of their time instructing and training, they aren't body builders.

Alch,

The art you should look into depends a lot on what you want to accomplish. Tai Chi will add the element of diversity that you are looking for but it it slow, and soft in routine practice and rarely explosive. It is more about concentration and form than anything else.

I would recommend a equally hard and soft art. Like some Kung Fu style s like Shaolin is the most common. Hung Gar is available in most places and the art I was talking to you about, Kuntao is hard to find as Masters are few and far between in the states.

I think a good example of effectiveness, fun, and mind/body/spirit type of stuff is to find someone who has trained extensively in several arts and has developed their own. The eastern arts will always have a more spiritual and philisophical element to them.

People will debate you endlessly on their raw effectiveness in combat though. But I wouldn'y make a decision based on that, most people are just out to promote their art or style and knock others, the quality of art being displayed always comes down the individual practitioner.

"i practice tae kwon do.....which is like korean kick boxing. even the warm up leaves you gasping for air. what i particularly like is that cos you do unusual kicks...like side kicks for example - you find muscles you never knew existed......it gives you a great, lean, shape."

Thanks for the info! I love hearing personal experiences. Helps me decide so much easier... I will definitely keep tae kwon do in mind.

"and sadly.....i have been weak on many occasions!"

Yeah, I am such a wuss when it comes to pain... I will become a bit more pain tolerant. I am never having children... Oh, hell no!! Ouch...

That being said, I do tend to be somewhat of a masochist when it comes to exercise. If I don't feel like I am about to die, then it is not as good as it could be. I also love Listerine. If it doesn't hurt, then it isn't good for you... Haha!

"The art you should look into depends a lot on what you want to accomplish."

Okay, so the general concensus is that Tai Chi is probably not for me. Good to know...

Thanks for the info! If I knew it was going to get into martial arts, I would have gone straight to you.

You know... If you were teaching me, something tells me that I might not even find watching concrete harden to be boring. Haha! No, seriously, when do we start?!? 🙂

"I would recommend a equally hard and soft art. Like some Kung Fu style s like Shaolin is the most common. Hung Gar is available in most places and the art I was talking to you about, Kuntao is hard to find as Masters are few and far between in the states."

😢 WTF?!? So, you sent me that info on Kuntao, and it sounds really, really cool. That is just mean! Shaolin Kung Fu sounds cool, too. Thanks again for the info!

"i dont think alcheme is looking to get as deep into martial arts as you clearly are."

Actually, he was spot on. Not that you might be able to tell that from my posts... We have actually discussed it before. Had I known it was going into martial arts, would have just jumped him for the info. Though, I do like hearing lots of people's experiences. I like to know all the options, so I know I chose the best one. 😉

Actually, the long term and depth was a major reason I wanted to try yoga or pilates, and also a major reason I couldn't get into it. I can't imagine voluntarily signing myself up for long term practice of something that damn boring. I am not THAT masochistic...

Alcheme U asked for purification prelims rt ? -

'Shatkarma" is a Sanskrit word that refers to the Yogic practices involving purificaton of the body. These practices, include neti, dhauti, basti, kapalbhati, trataka, and nauli.

1. Neti refers to nasal wash. This is the practice of using a neti pot to cleanse the nasal passages. A basic neti wash consists of purified water and non-iodized salt, to create a gentle saline solution.

2. Kapalbhati refers to skull polishing, and is a pranayama (breathing) practice intended to energize and balance the nadis, and the chakras. Specifically, it is a sharp, short outbreath, followed by a relaxation of the core that allows the body to inhale on its own.

3. Nauli refers to intestinal cleansing. The practitioner stands with the feet about hip width apart, hands on knees, and body at about a 45 degree angle. The core is rotated internally by moving the abdominal muscles alternately in a clock-wise, then counterclock-wise direction.

Traditional Hatha Yoga is a holistic yogic path, including moral disciplines, physical exercises (e.g., asanas (postures) and Pranayama (breath control), and meditation. The Hatha yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas (postures) and exercise.

Hatha Yoga is one of the two branches of Yoga that focus on the physical culture, the other one being Raja Yoga. Both of these are commonly referred to as Ashtanga Yoga, i.e., Yoga of eight parts ('ashta' meaning eight and 'anga' meaning limbs). The eight limbs are described below in detail.

The main difference is that Raja Yoga uses asanas to mainly get the body ready for prolonged meditation, and hence focuses more on the meditative asana poses: Lotus Pose (Padmasana), Accomplished Pose (Siddhasana), Easy Pose (Sahajasana) and Pelvic Pose (Vajrasana.

Wow, thanks for the massively cool info, GA!

Now that sounds really neat. I think I am going to read up on that... All things considered, my chakras (and perhaps my nadis) could probably use all the balancing they could get.

Oh! Got any bad ass insight / info on Tantric Sex? I had some questions on the Libra board about it... Just curious.
