What is a gentleman?

Good question. "What is a gentleman?"

It isn't so easy to answer as you might expect. The answer varies from female to female. One might say it's in his mannerisms, another the way he pulls out your chair before you're seated, and yet another the way he holds your hair while you give a technicolor yawn.

I'll have to answer for myself. Not what is a gentle man, but what is a GOOD man. Kindness, assuredly. But also the ability to allow a woman to feel protected and cherished. The way he holds a child, laughs with full appreciation and kindly touches his woman as he passes by. The secret laughter from one set of eyes to another. The ability to withstand and weather the emotional shifts that make our sex so alluring and vexing at the same time. The ability to let someone care about him, to give back. To talk and laugh with no fear of recrimination, no judgement. To hold his arm proudly about his lady and proclaim to the world that he is loved and loves in return.

To be the rock, the anchor. To be secure within himself enough to draw lines, to keep respect. I'm not talking about belittling another, or making them feel small, but if you give us an inch we'll take a mile, make no mistake.

I've heard over and over that women prefer jerks, a**holes. I don't. Actually I think chasing after someone with the soul of a cockroach a wee bit repulsive. And it makes one seem desperate. I simply prefer a MAN. Not a boy, not a child, not someone nudging under my arm like a dog begging for scraps.

A lover. No moonlight sonatas at midnight, no stars pulled down from the skies, but someone to grab hold of you and make you SEE stars. Someone to tickle, spoon with, lay in bed with and laugh with. And I'm vulgar and crass enough to appreciate a well timed fart, I'll admit it. Hilarious. And I don't bitch about the toilet seat being up either, I've often wondered why more men don't bitch about us leaving it DOWN all the time. Or you gents could sit, I seriously doubt all the muscles are going to fall out of your wrists if you have a set down every once in awhile. Remember lads, move closer, it's shorter than you think!

They say familiarity breeds contempt, I think not. I think it brings a deeper understanding. I'm old-fashioned, old school, whatever face you want to put on it, that's fine. But take me at face value and be honest with me. I don't appreciate liars, cheaters or miscreants. I do not play head games and I'll thank you not t

to play them.

Compliment us, women crave it. We need mental strokes and pats often or we turn into a puddle of ooze. An insecure woman is not a pretty sight. Refer to *desperate* once more.

I am as faithful as the day as long, true as the sun in the morning and deeper than you may have ever guessed. I am playful, foul-mouthed at times and filthy minded most of the time. And if you can't handle that, tough teats. I can be a lady when it suits me. I love my children with every breath that's left to me and we're a package deal. No negotiations. No quarter given.

I can bend my back with the best of them and still have dinner on the table by 6. I can run a house, manage a menagarie and a boatload of children and not bat an eye, I AM the shi*. I am real, I am honest, and I will give you everything I have to give. I am kind, I am sarcastic, but I am never cruel unless goaded beyond all measure. I am fiercely protective of all that I hold dear. I will move heaven and hell if I have to.

I am not out to spend your money, cramp your style or crowd you. And dammit if you feel that way, speak up.

Well, for one thing, a Gentleman is a man who will take NO for an answer. If a lady says NO, then he stops with no hard feelings. That's one example of being a Gentleman.

Also, someone who won't lash out in anger, but will calmly and honestly discuss problems.
