LG and Samsung have been locked in a battle that involved the technology they are using on their 3D TV sets. The latest development has been a verbal assault launched by LG in which they claim the Samsung??s technology is outdated.

Samsung had been early into the 3D arena and they came in with the active technology where the glasses also required to be powered for giving the ability to view the content on their 3D capable TV sets. LG came in later with the passive technology based 3D TVs which are cheaper than the active technology based sets and therefore more in demand.

Both Samsung and LG are now vying to capture a greater market share though they both have a common factor of less availability of appropriate content which mars their sales.

Kwon Hee-Won, Chief of LG TV said, —LG is in a fight with Samsung over the standardization of global 3D technology. But we are quite confident as more television majors have joined the film-based camp.??

He also mentioned about Sony having plans to adopt their technology for their forthcoming 3D sets, when he said —Leading Chinese and Taiwanese TV producers are already on our side. Japan??s Panasonic and Toshiba are newcomers for the LG-led 3D technology, which is very impressive.??

Hong Ji-eun, the spokeswoman of Sony in Korea, however refused to make any comment on this issue of using passive technology for their 3D TV sets. Panasonic and Toshiba could not be contacted to get their views.

Kwon went on to announce that active technology was soon going to be used only by Samsung and no other TV making company.

Panasonic has adopted the LG used passive technology and this is good news for the LG camp. The statements made by Kwon hold water for the fact that he is close to the CEO of LG, Koo Bon-joon.

With Panasonic having started up with active technology and later shifting to passive technology should be good news for LG who has been backing the passive 3D tech foor quite some time now.

Kwon further added, —LG is aiming to sell 20 percent more 3D televisions in 2012 from a year earlier, enough to make it the world??s top 3D TV maker with a global market share of 25 percent.??

LG has plans afoot to place about 35 million units of flat screen sets which would include the LCD screens as well as plasma screens into the global market by end of the year. Their prime focus is the market in Middle East, Latin America, Africa and former Soviet bloc.
